HAMPSHIRE Athletics will bid a fond farewell to Orien Young tomorrow on Thursday.
The former Bermuda track international died on September 30, aged 85.
Born in Bermuda, Orien was one of 50 dockyard apprentices to travel to England to finish his training with the British Admiralty.
He was a Bermuda national track champion in the 1950s and represented his country in the 1954 Commonwealth Games.
A well-known face on the county scene, he served as an official and starter for Hampshire Athletics and was honorary life vice-president and, for many years, president of City of Portsmouth AC.
The funeral is at 12.15pm on October 27 at ‘The Oaks’, Bartons Way, Havant. Following the service there will be a wake at Portsmouth's Mountbatten Centre.
Flowers are welcome or donations, if desired, can be made by cheque, payable to ‘Transplant Support UK’ c/o Co-operative Funeralcare, 157 Fratton Road, Portsmouth, P01 5ER.
