JUDE Nwachukwu’s late equaliser for Brockenhurst pegged Team Solent back to their second successive 1-1 draw in the Sydenhams Premier Division on Saturday.

But with the Students’ unbeaten league and cup run rolling on to a 19th game and the SWL October club-of-the-month award winging their way, manager James Taylor cannot complain.

“Tyrell Mitford scored for us in about the 80th minute and I thought we’d win it from there, but Brock scored a good goal in injury time,” he said.

“It’s a bit disappointing really coming after a 1-1 draw on the Isle of Wight (against Newport) where we missed a penalty and the goal they got slipped through the keeper’s hands.

“On Saturday Brockenhurst were quite defensive and we couldn’t break them down.

“But that’s 19 unbeaten and we’ve done really well recently.”

Losing star man Jesse Waller-Lassen to tight hamstrings early in the game didn’t help Solent’s cause.

The Students’ scheduled Southampton Senior Cup tie against Upham tonight has been rained off and it remains to be seen if Waller-Lassen will be fit for Saturday’s league visit to Andover Town.

George Butler (thigh) and Tobi Adekunle (hamstring) have been sidelined for a while. “We’re a few short,” said Taylor. “But then everyone is.”

Team Solent are sixth in the Premier Division, ten points off top spot with a game in hand.

Blackfield’s 4-0 defeat to Bashley was an eye-opener, but Taylor said: “The league’s wide open this year, I can see lots more losses for everyone.”

*BEMERTON Heath Harlequins failed to make home advantage count as their game against Lymington Town was switched to Western Way due to building work at Town’s Sports Ground home.

Lewis Packham secured Lymington’s 1-0 win, taking them tenth.

*PORTLAND United kept the pressure on the top clubs with a 4-0 win over struggling Fareham Town.

Lewis Clarke struck twice, backed by singles from Lewis Whyton and Jamie Beasley.

The sinking Creeksiders have now suffered eight straight league defeats.

*AFC PORTCHESTER are fifth after drawing 1-1 at home to Alresford Town and stretching their unbeaten run to 11 games.

Young Harry Gregory scored on his Royals debut, but the Magpies levelled on the brink of half-time.

Tom Cain conceded a penalty and, although keeper Cameron Scott saved the initial kick, John Cole netted the rebound.

*HORNDEAN hit back from 2-0 down at Amesbury through Mark Smith and Ian Humble.

But Tyler Brockway (3) and Dave Parry (2) swept the Blues to a 5-2 victory.

*DRAW specialists Newport IoW shared the spoils for the tenth time this season at Bournemouth Poppies.

The Islanders slipped 1-0 down to a 36th-minute Sami Makhloufi strike in poor conditions at Victoria Park, but came back to claim a Sydenhams Premier point thanks to Jimmi Burton’s leveller midway through the second half.

Port might have won it five minutes from time but Joe Butcher’s strike hit the post, leaving the score 1-1.

*COWES Sports were beaten 4-1 at home by Hamworthy, for whom ex-Weymouth boss Brendon King was taking his first game in charge.

Doubles from Connor Phillips and Ed Hodge carried the Hammers to a third successive away victory.

Cowes, a lowly 19th, responded through Jason Ince.

*ANDOVER Town set an unwanted club record on Saturday.

Their 2-0 Sydenhams Premier defeat at rock-bottom Verwood made it three league games without a goal for the first time since the north Hampshire outfit was formed in 2013.

Having enjoyed plenty of early possession at rain-drenched Potterne Park, Andover lost Ross Gregory to injury at the start of the second half and fell behind in the 54th minute when Harvey Elsom broke the deadlock.

On 82 minutes, 42-year-old ex-Saints, Bristol Rovers and Bournemouth midfielder Christer Warren swept in the Potters’ second following good work by James Bergin.

It was only Verwood’s second league win of the season, lifting them to within three points of fellow strugglers Fawley with a game in hand.

Andover, in 17th, are in a rut of six straight league and cup defeats.
