ORIOL Romeu has urged Saints to find some consistency and bounce back after a topsy-turvy week – and ahead of another crunch period.

Romeu concedes there’s “something wrong” and when they play away from St Mary’s “we are not feeling as good”.

After beating Everton at St Mary’s and reaching the semi-finals of the EFL Cup with 2-0 win at Arsenal, Saints once again slumped in a miserable 3-0 loss at strugglers Crystal Palace.

It’s happened before this season, with Saints seemingly riding the crest of a wave after big wins, but then hitting the buffers with a poor result.

Last month Saints defeated Italian giants Inter Milan in the Europa League, but then were beaten disappointingly at lowly Hull.

Romeu stated that there’s no way Saints will battle in the top six again if they can’t find some consistency in their form, especially away from St Mary’s.

“That’s the thing, when you get regularity, things will go better and the team will go higher in the league,” he said. “Until we get that, it’s going to be hard to go and get a bit more and higher in the table.

“We’re consistent at home, but it’s away that we are not feeling as good as we should.

“I don’t know, it’s just a matter of time or winning more games. We need to play and be there and I hope things don’t happen again.

He added: “[With Crystal Palace it’s the] same as Hull City, we need to take these opportunities and make them right. Today we didn’t. Next time we will do it right.

“We are a better team than what they are, but we’re not winning. There’s something wrong there and we should do better.”

Romeu has backed Saints to bounce back from their slump at Selhurst Park, stating that they need to get the defeat “properly” out their heads before their crunch Europa League group game against Hapoel Be’er Sheva on Thursday night.

“This season we’ve had one or two defeats already [like this one],” he said. “We came back from them, so we’ll just have to do it again.

“Hopefully we won’t have any more defeats like today.

“It’s very hard [to take],” he continued. “It’s a lot of goals we conceded and we didn’t score anything.

“It’s hard to take, but we’ve got to keep our heads up because of Thursday we will have an amazing night and we’re looking forward to it.

“We’re need to get this out of our heads properly and look forward.

“We just have to go again on Thursday. Today sadly we lost. It was a tough defeat. Thursday we have another chance and we can bounce back again.

“We have to win. We have to prove that we’re there. With our fans we will have an amazing job and we’re going to all enjoy it.”
