DUSAN Tadic believes that Manchester United’s previous experience of winning trophies helped them to prevail over Saints at Wembley.

United , one of the most successful English clubs ever, have the big game players to rely on, even when they are not playing at their best.

Tadic felt that even with Saints very much the dominant side in the 3-2 League Cup final defeat, United’s experience was ultimately the difference.

“This game we missed experience because United are a big team, with quality players,” he said. “They know how to win trophies.

“In the end when they don’t play good, they beat you with those kinds of things in experience .. they know how to win in massive games.”

It could have been a completely different story at Wembley had Gabbiadini’s 11th-minute goal not been scratched off for offside.

Tadic knew “immediately” that the Italian striker’s goal should have stood.

“Yes, for sure,” he said. “On video and I felt immediately in the game that it was not offside.

“But this is football. Still after 2-0 we came back to 2-2 and had some good moments.”

He continued: “It’s a very hard moment. Everyone is sad. I think especially because we know we gave everything and we deserve more.”

Tadic believes that it was a performance benefitting a victory.

It looked as if Saints had done all the hard work, having come back from 2-0 down, but failed to find the net before Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s late winner.

“Especially in the first half we were playing better even when it was 2-0 for them,” he said.

“The goal should have stood for Manolo and it would have been a different game if this goal wasn’t disallowed. It should have been 1-0 to us.

“In the second half United put Carrick in and they got more balance, they closed us a little bit more.”

“We got a feeling we could win when it was 2-0 I had a feeling because we had opportunities.

“Still when this happened we had more chances to score.”
