MICHAEL Carberry is in the form of his life just eight months after being diagnosed with cancer.

The 36 year-old will continue his remarkable comeback against Sussex at Hove today ahead of the opening Specsavers County Championship match of the season against Yorkshire at Headingley next Friday.

So far in pre season he has made scores of 58, 78, 68 and 107.

“Carbs is batting as well as I’ve seen him bat,” said Hampshire director of cricket Giles White.

“He seems hungry and relaxed and that’s a good blend.

“I’m hopeful he’ll start the season well and it’s great to see him back.

“The way he’s batted and is moving at the crease and hitting the ball... he looks good.

“It’s not an easy time to bat in early season and there will be challenges ahead, but he’s in good shape right now.

“He’s had a very tough time of it and it’s not the first time he’s come up against trouble.

“He had a tough time with his lungs and each time he comes back he shows that character, that resilience.

“He loves the game and he loves batting and that’s a big driver for him.”

Liam Dawson said: “Carbs is in the form of his life, he’s back to his old, attacking self.

“It’s great to see him back on the pitch.

“The way he’s batting is unbelievable, he’s striking the ball exceptionally well.

“You couldn’t bowl to him the other day.”
