There is a well known saying in darts – scoring is for show and doubles for dough.

But the Bobby George-coined phrase is not something that Simon Whitlock necessarily agrees with - he nailed another fourteen 180s during Week 8 of the popular Southampton Darts Series.

That takes the Waterlooville-based Australian to 52 in the six events he has played in – way ahead of Romsey’s Rich North who is in second place on 25.

But it was not just the PDC professional who was nailing 180s the evening. The field of top quality players amassed a staggering 53 between them – the second highest in the competition’s history.

Whitlock has totally dominated the weekly competition, staged at Bitterne Park Social Club, this season and claimed another final victory with a 4-0 win over Gary Stafford.

Steve Perren threw eight maximums and Rich North, who lost to Whitlock in the semis, hit five.

And, just to prove that he was not all about scoring, Whitlock threw the game’s highest possible finish of 170 – as did the other losing semi-finalist Charlie Jackson, who also checked out on 117 and 113.

Gosport player Wayne France won the Plate competition, beating Dave Witts from Sholing 3-2 in the final.

Calmore Community Club beat all before them to win the Totton Challenge League with ease.

The champions won all of their 26 matches with runners-up Peg & Parrot A nine points behind.

Bishop’s Waltham & District League: All the Division 1 games, bar one, were claimed with an 8-1 winning scoreline this week.

The only close match was Acorn A’s 5-4 win over Park Gate C while Bold Forester were handed a 9-0 walkover by Park Gate A.

Bishop’s Waltham A continue to set the pace while Hedge End Club, who also beat Wheatsheaf 8-1, have a comfortable advantage at the top of Division 2.

Bradley Wilkinson’s 120 finish for Priory was the highest this week, followed by Dave Mill’s 117 for Hedge End, 116 by Wayne Paddington for Park Gate C and a 115 by Horse & Jockey player Dave White. Steve Perren threw a 15-dart leg for Hedge End and there was an 18-darter from Acorn A’s Nick Harding.

Portswood & District Mixed League: New Waggoners’ Bradley Kirk & Chris Witts won the men’s pairs competition after beating Saints’ Kev Woodward & Mickey Noyce in the final.

The contest was held at The Saints pub, Millbrook where Lorrie King & Sue Groves claimed the ladies’ title by beating Janice Hyde & Lisa Scott from the home venue.

Freemantle, Shirley & District League: There is only two points difference between Division 1 leaders Salmon Leap and second-placed Prince of Wales B – but the gap between the sides seemed a lot more than that when they came face to face.

Leap won the clash 9-0 to underline their bragging rights at the top.

It is a different story in Division 2 with Robin Hood, Mountbatten and Saints A all on 12 points.

Salmon Leap’s Nillson Pritchard was the stand-out player this week – hitting an 11-dart and 13-dart leg.

Bitterne Park Men’s League: West End Brewery duo D Newman & M Plowman won the Captains’ & Secretaries’ Cup competition at the Peartree Inn with victory over Matt Nutburn & Ashley Watt of Bittern.

Bitterne Park Ladies’ League: Louise Pearce & Karen Griffin won the pairs final for Nursling Club B when they defeated Rover’s Sarah Marshall & Hannah Russell in the final.

The Ladies’ House Champions Knockout went to Peartree Inn player Carole Charrett who got the better of Nursling Club B’s Karen Griffin.

Bitterne Park Mixed League: Team Knock-out honours went to Richmond who defeated Woolston Social Club 5-4 in the final.

Ben Bishop checked out on 138 for Richmond and Alan Lewington hit a 11 out-shot for Woolston.

Lyndhurst Workmen’s Club League: Coach & Horses B battled back from 3-1 down to beat Hythe Club to secure the Team Knock-out silverware.

The Consolation Cup was won by Minstead Club A who defeated Paultons Cricket Club.
