Angry Claude Puel insisted that his side are not suffering a mental block at St Mary’s despite another dismal home display.

Saints were held to a goalless draw by relegation threatened Hull in a match which only came alive in the closing moments as Dusan Tadic had a penalty saved and Cedric Soares cleared off the line.

Only relegated Sunderland and likely soon to be relegated Middlesbrough have scored fewer goals at home in the Premier League than Saints’ 17 this season, which has led to Puel’s team picking up just six wins out of 16.

It was a particularly frustrating day against Hull but Puel denied there is now a fear factor for his stars when it comes to playing at home.

“No. It is not because we can do a good game again and a good win at home and a good game also away,” he said.

“It was not good intensity on the play, a good atmosphere from the fans and they deserve more.

“We are angry with them that we cannot have a good result. We are angry like the fans.

“We have to accept this because a draw is normal today and we need now to prepare the next game with all the intensity, all the spirit, and get a win.”
