ALRESFORD Town have completed a trio of summer signings by welcoming former QPR hotshot Tyrell Mitford to Arlebury Park.

Mitford has switched camps from league rivals Team Solent as Alresford look to better last season’s fifth-placed finish in the Sydenhams Premier Division.

He follows fellow frontman Danny Phillips, from Whitchurch United, into the Magpies’ nest, along with towering centre-back Ross Carmichael, a title-winner last term with Portland United.

“Signing Tyrell is a massive boost for us,” said Alresford boss Richard Luffman.

“He’s a good footballer and he fits into our style of play.”

Shooting down suggestions from Team Solent boss James Taylor that Mitford was being offered “stupid money”, former Otterbourne manager Luffman said: “That’s our recruitment done now.

“We did extremely well to finish fifth on zero budget last season and we were all over the moon.

“This season the chairman has given me a small budget. Some of that will go to the players who have worked their socks off for us from Otterbourne all the way through to Alresford.

“And some has been used to recruit three players – Tyrell, Ross and Danny – who aren’t interested in earning stupid money, but want to play football and better themselves.”

Mitford, who has just completed the first year of a coaching and sport development degree at Southampton Solent University, was released by QPR in May 2015 after playing for their under-18s.

Last season he was a key cog in the Team Solent side that reached the FA Vase fifth round and the final of the Southampton Senior Cup at St Mary’s.
