Hampshire all-rounder Gareth Berg has signed a one-year contract extension

The 36 year-old has committed until at least the end of the 2018 season.

He enjoyed a hugely impressive first season with the county in 2015, winning the Paris Smith Fans’ Player of the Year Award and the Ageas Players’ Player of the Year Awards at the Club’s End of Season Awards Dinner.

The accolades came after he proved instrumental in helping Hampshire escape relegation from Division One of the County Championship, taking 43 wickets at an average of 28.32 and scoring almost 700 runs in the lower-order.

Berg received his county cap the following year and has continued to contribute in all formats.

He has also taken on a new role this year, holding the responsibility of taking the new ball alongside Kyle Abbott in four-day contests.

The 36-year-old has already raced to 28 wickets at just 24.64 apiece this season, whilst also scoring almost 400 runs at an average of 36.09.

“I’m very proud to be playing for Hampshire and to be offered an extension means I get to keep contributing and trying to win games for this great club in all formats for the future," he said.

“I’d like to think all the hard work from this winter has paid off where I focused on getting as fit as I’ve ever been in my playing career, putting in long, hard hours to sustain long periods in the field.

“We have a great set of players in our squad here and I truly believe we have a squad ready to take on anyone this year and for years to come.”

"This season he has formed an excellent new-ball partnership with Kyle Abbott and his contributions with both bat and ball will be important as we push for a strong finish in the final third of the season.”
