Hampshire's Specsavers County Championship match against Lancashire has been abandoned as a draw.

No play was possible on days three or four as rain so the sides are now level on 117 points in the first division's top three.

Lancashire, who have a game in hand on Hampshire, are second having lost one less match.

Leaders Essex extended the gap to 41 points by thrashing Yorkshire inside two days earlier this week.

Umpires Stephen Gale and Jeremy Lloyds eventually called off the match off at 12:45 with heavy rain battering the south coast.

Hampshire are are not in Championship action again until September 5.
