DUSAN Tadic believes that it’s just best to forget about Saints’ embarrassing elimination to Championship side Wolves in the League Cup second round.

The Serbian reckons that there is no point in dwelling on the 2-0 defeat which saw Saints drop out of the competition they reached the final of last term.

“Yes, [we need to forget it],” he said. “We need to look at the good things and the bad and try to correct them and that’s it.”

Mauricio Pellegrino dabbled with a 3-4-3 formation against Wolves, which he had squad working on during the week in training.

It looked clunky throughout this defeat, with Saints struggling to create much going forward.

Tadic insists it was a “good experience” to play in the new formation, but reckons it will take some time for Saints to get used to it.

“I’ve played that formation in the national team and you need time to get used to it,” he said. “But it’s good experience for everyone.”

“We need to have a few ideas and the coach tried to explain it as best as possible and that’s it,” he added. “We need to follow his ideas.

“We worked on it just for this game, but we will see. We need to be intelligent to know how to play different systems.”

The playmaker, 28, was laid back about Saints’ League Cup hopes being snuffed out having had such a glorious run to Wembley last term.

“Sometimes you go all the way, sometimes not,” he said. “We just need to concentrate now on the other competitions we have left and that’s it.

“We need to believe in achieving in those competitions.”

“It’s disappointing to lose. We had some chances but we didn’t use them. That’s it, we need to keep going,” he added.

“We’ve still got the Premier League. We won last time in the Premier League and we need to get back on that track.”

Danny Batth and Donovan Wilson’s second half goals saw Wolves progress to the third round.

“When they scored the goal, they got more feeling that they were going to win,” Tadic said. “If we’d had scored the first goal it would have been different.

“We had some chances in the first half. We should have created a little bit more. But it’s okay, we played a different system for the first time and we need to adapt on things there.”
