WING wizard Curtis Young stole the show with two jaw-dropping finishes as AFC Totton returned to winning ways with a 5-0 thrashing of lowly Yate Town in the Evo-Stik South West this afternoon.

The Stags handed a debut to young Aldershot Town centre-back Jack Barker and got a bonus match out of Stuart Mott at the heart of defence before he returns to the Army.

Totton started on the front foot, forcing a couple of early corners before Toby Adekunle’s thunderous blast whistled inches wide.

Deservedly they took the lead on eight minutes when former AFC Bournemouth duo Connor York and Curtis Young picked up where they left off last season, combining well on the right.

It was York who picked out Alfy WHITTINGHAM on the edge of the box and the on-loan Havant & Waterloville midfielder unloaded a shot that crashed down off the underside of the crossbar and was deemed to have crossed the line.

Yate responded with a dangerous, angled shot by Mitch Tippins that went behind for a corner and, with the pressure still on, Stags 'keeper Shane Murphy turned behind Ben Brooks’ awkwardly bouncing shot.

With Totton’s early domination petering out, the game got scrappy.

Adekunle fired wildly over for the hosts and then Craig Feeney’s cross was marginally too high for Nathaniel Sherborne to get his head on.

Second-to-bottom Yate were no pushovers, forcing six corners in the opening half-hour and increasingly asking questions of the Totton defence.

Adekunle then forced a corner at the other end and as Sherborne played the second ball back in, it rebounded off Mott’s body into 'keeper Harvey Rivers’ arms.

The Stags kept up the momentum and made it 2-0 on 41 minutes following more good work by York and Young.

Feeney crossed from the right for ADEKUNLE to bundle in at the back stick.

Bluebells’ keeper Rivers was busy at the start of the second-half, denying Feeney from close-range and then safely gathering Charlie Gunson’s free-kick.

Sub James Difford had one of Yate’s better cracks at goal before Totton made their first change, replacing the recently booked Whittingham with Jack Masterton.

Almost immediately Masterton was brought down just outside the area and Gunson brought the best out of Rivers with a well struck free-kick.

Totton’s third goal was just around the corner, however - YOUNG giving the 222 crowd a moment to cherish with a gloriously curled shot from distance in the 68th minute.

But if that goal was good, the one that made it 4-0 was out of this world.

With 84 minutes gone teenage talent YOUNG skipped his way through the Yate defence, throwing in a nutmeg along the way, before finishing off with an unstoppable drilled shot into the bottom corner.

To crown a great afternoon for Totton, ADEKUNLE collected a deep cross from the right and showed great footwork before crashing goal number five into the far bottom corner with 88 minutes gone.
