The Paultons Common came close to the magic 50 lb mark when Bradley Price enjoyed a guest session on Isle of Wight venue Blackwater.

He landed the huge fish at 49 lb to set a new fishery record. Price, whose dad Steve is a syndicate member, got an invite to fish with his father and set a new personal best with the huge common last caught in June at just over 47 lb.

Price also caught fish of 24 lb 2 oz, 31 lb 4 oz and 31 lb 2 oz, while Steve took fish of 22 lb 2 oz and 31 lb 12 oz.

Elsewhere at Blackwater, John Anderson took fish of 20 lb 1 oz, 21 lb 4 oz and 23 lb 2 oz.

Christian Horlock took a 32 lb 8 oz fish, Ben Cassford a 26 lb and Roy Dennis a 24 lb 8 oz.

Mark Blake and Richie Self romped to victory in the first round of the Eastleigh Pairs Carp and Silvers League on Topmoor at Witherington Farm.

They claimed a maximum 28-point haul to win from Kev Downer and Mark Cannings and Paul Sears and Graham Tappenden.

On the carp front, Mark Blake won with 53 lb 5 oz of carp on pole and worm from peg 44. Others: Mick Aldis 44 lb 4 oz, Self 36 lb 2 oz, G.Naylor 35 lb 14 oz. In the Silvers League, Tappenden won from peg 36 with 13 lb 11 oz of roach and skimmers on pole and maggot and caster. Others: Blake 12 lb 4 oz, S.Pomery 9 lb, D.Calver 5 lb 6 oz. Paul Hough won Cormorants’ club match on Hordle’s Long Lake.

He landed 77 lb 1 oz of carp to 8 lb on pole, corn and maggot in the margins. Kendall Barry finished second with 70 lb 3 oz of carp on pole over maggot and ground bait in the margins. Others: D.Hydes 44 lb 13 oz, J.Banks 40 lb 12 oz, S.Daish 21 lb.

Salisbury outfit Gummy Bears won the Avon and Nadder Teams of Four event.

Frank Gumbleton, Shaun Gumbleton, Paul Coulbeck and Colin Sellwood scored 34 points out of 44 to win from Avon Angling Melksham (31).

Elizabeth Gardens, on The Nadder, produced a superb winning haul with Mike Gittens (Melksham) taking 47 lb 12 oz of dace and roach on maggot and stick float.

Tony Roff (Salisbury Misfits) was second with 31 lb of dace and Coulbeck third with 30 lb 12 oz.

On The Avon, Kev Bennet (Ringwood) won with 18 lb of dace and roach on stick float and red maggot from the horses’ field.

Others: Gary Haskell (Ringwood) 14 lb, Kevin Mossy (Kennet Ospreys) 11 lb.

Despite a hard frost, Hillview at Todber still produced some great weights.

Peter Neate fished pole and worm to land 78 lb 14 oz of carp to 7 lb to win from peg 60. Others: S.Dimment 61 lb 12 oz, A.Tomkins 59 lb 14 oz, L.Davidson 55 lb 2 oz. The silvers was won by Nigel Bartlett with 27 lb 6 oz from peg 38 on pole, worm and caster with Dave Roper second with 18 lb.

Les Thompson had a great result from Rookley on The Isle of Wight, taking fish of 30 lb 6 oz, 30 lb, 31 lb and 23 lb 4 oz.

Tom Lamb enjoyed a five-fish haul with fish of 33 lb 4 oz, 30 lb 4 oz, 24 lb, 21 lb 2 oz and 21 lb. Craig Armstrong had three fish with a 26 lb 9 oz, 22 lb 1 oz and 21 lb 3 oz. Mark Eastman had a 30 lb 6 oz, Jamie Marsdon a 24 lb, Andy Snell a 23 lb 14 oz and Craig McManus a 21 lb 15 oz.

The carp have had a good summer at Todber and many are coming out at their highest ever weight. Geoff Warren took Split Tail at its highest ever and a new personal best at 32 lb 8 oz on C.C Moore Pacific Tuna boilies from Big Hayes.

The same lake also produced four carp to Kia Sanger to 28 lb 7 oz.

Emma Rimmer did a day session for carp of 20 lb 8 oz and 24 lb 6 oz, while Robin Ball took commons of 22 lb 6 oz and 25 lb 1 oz. David Hall landed a 25 lb 8 oz. On Willow Bank, Lewis Clance landed two carp to 22 lb 9 oz, Mark Walters took a 21 lb 6 oz and Kirsty Holborn took carp to 18 lb.

On Wadmill, Graham Underwood did a 96-hour session landing 70 carp to 19 lb.

Natalie Kavanagh banked 15 carp to 16 lb 2 oz and Steve Red 11 carp to 14 lb 5 oz.

Over on Longbridge, near Broadchalke, Brian Spalding had 13 perch to 2 lb 13 oz on worm and prawns fished in close from peg 30.

Jamie Brian took nine perch to 2 lb 8 oz from the back bank on pole, worm and caster.
