ANDOVER is staging its own production of Twin Peaks.

For the first time ever, the north Hampshire town is sitting pretty at the top of both the Sydenhams Wessex Premier and Division One.

Glenn Burnett’s Andover Town maintained their ten-point lead at the Premier summit with a 2-0 win at Brockenhurst.

It was a good way to bring the curtain down on five consecutive away fixtures before returning to the Portway Stadium tomorrow (Tuesday, 7.45pm) to face in-form Bemerton Heath Harlequins in the Russell Cotes Cup.

After forcing several corners in quick succession at Brock, Andover finally struck gold in the 16th-minute when Connor Cocklin forced the ball over the line following yet another Mike Gosney delivery.

Former AFC Totton winger Gosney was instrumental in the second goal too with just over an hour gone.

Having made a terrific run down the left, he was upended as he cut into the area, then got up to send the ’keeper the wrong way from the spot.

It was a highly satisfying afternoon for Town, who kept their first clean sheet for 13 matches.

Andover New Street rose to the Division One pinnacle with a 2-1 home win over former league leaders Laverstock & Ford.

Ollie ‘Gunner’ Yates caught Lavvy cold in the opening minute of each half to fire his team to victory.

Russell Jones hit back for the visitors in between, but New Street could well have added to their tally.

Shane Lock was denied by a penalty save from L&F’s man-of-the-match George Baxter and also had an effort cleared off the line.

*ASSISTANT manager Andrew Rimmer hailed an “outstanding” performance from Newport IW as they slammed six past Petersfield Town in the Sydenhams Premier Division at Love Lane.

The Islanders travelled without the injured Emerson Tattersall and the unavailable Scott Sampson, but were boosted by the return of Liam Triggs following a spell with Blackfield & Langley.

Leading by goals from Spike Pearce and Josh Younie at the break, Port built on their dominance in the second half with Younie and Charlie Urry doubling their advantage by the 69-minute mark.

Sub Aurele Beya then made it five before Connor Kelly topped off the 6-0 victory in the 88th minute.

*THERE was bad news, though, for Newport's Island neighbours Cowes Sports, who were well beaten 4-0 by Bashley at Westwood Park.

Conor Whiteley buried Lewis Ross’s arrowed cross just four minutes in and it remained 1-0 at the interval despite Bashley’s Brad Strickland hitting the crossbar and Kabba Jack having a ‘goal’ scrubbed out for offside.

Foresters’ keeper Mike Edgar played his part with two good saves before half-time before set-piece Whiteley doubled his and Bashley’s tally early in the second half after Jack had been fouled 25 yards out.

Jack then side-stepped the keeper to make it 3-0 from Harry McGrath’s defence-splitting pass and Sam Jackson completed the scoring amid a goalmouth scramble.
