MAURICIO Pellegrino revealed he is constantly studying new ideas and solutions as he tries to pull Saints out of the mire.

Ahead of welcoming Everton to St Mary’s tomorrow in a HUGE must-win Premier League showdown, Saints have won just once in seven matches.

But Pellegrino is working hard on turning their ailing fortunes around.

“We are changing players, we are trying to change the qualities and are looking for new ideas," he said. “It’s something that we did and we are doing.

“We are trying new ideas and new solutions and obviously for me we try to choose the best eleven every single week.

“We don’t see much the opponent, we try to follow our principle and our style because I have to defend the quality that we’ve got in the squad.

“We will do all we can to see a team who will manage the ball, to put the ball on the ground and try to be patient.”

Saints have won just four games in 16 home Premier League fixtures in 2017 and Pellegrino has urged his team to show their “character”.

“The first thing is to be conscious that we have to take responsibility for ourselves and try to show our character – because different moments in games are good,” he said.

“The best thing you can draw conclusion from in difficult moments is that you will know how the people are in this situation, which people want to help the team and which people will be humble to do their his best for the team.

He added: “For me attitude and character is everything in our life. There are a lot of people with talent, but talent is irrelevant when we talk about teams.

“The problem is when you play every single week they are a human being playing football and sometimes they don’t have the same pressure, the same energy and it depends a lot on the situation. This is part of our life.”
