BASHLEY’S lean spell came to an emphatic end with a 6-0 trouncing of struggling Petersfield Town in the Sydenhams Premier Division.

Kabba Jack kicked off the goal spree with a quarter-of-an-hour gone and it took Conor Whiteley all of five minutes to double the tally.

Jack struck again from a precision cross by Lewis Ross before, out of the blue, Petersfield were awarded a penalty against Bash goalkeeper Mike Edgar. But it was not to be for the struggling Rams as Edgar atoned with a fine, diving save.

Petersfield started the second half with purpose, but they had no answer to a quick-moving, hard-tackling Bashley side.

Whiteley made it 4-0 after Jack’s effort had been half cleared before Jack completed his hat-trick after picking up an unclaimed ball outside the box. It took the busy, little marksman onto 13 goals for the season.

Two minutes later wideman Harry McGrath cut inside to add his name to the scoresheet.

Bash tomorrow (Tuesday, 7.45pm) travel to Hamble Club in the league, while Petersfield visit AFC Portchester in the Russell Cotes Cup. The winners of that tie will host AFC Stoneham in the quarter-finals.

*NEWPORT IW's improved run of form was halted with a 4-2 defeat at Amesbury Town.

Charlie Urry struck twice for Port, but his efforts were eclipsed by Kieran Stephens (2), Jordon Matthews and Luke Greenway.

Next up for the Islanders is Saturday's big FA Vase third round tie at Christchurch.

Priory are second in Sydenhams One after a 1-0 weekend win over Laverstock & Ford - Max Wilcock the scorer.

*FELLOW FA Vase survivors Baffins Milton Rovers were held 1-1 at home by Bournemouth Poppies in the Sydenhams Premier - Shane Cornish grabbing an 80th-minute equaliser for Louis Bell's men after Eder Batista had plunged them into arrears.

Baffins travel to Horley Town of the Combined Counties Premier Division on Saturday in the Vase.
