SALISBURY are up to fourth in the Evo-Stik South West after an eventful 2-0 win at Paulton Rovers.

The patched-up Whites inflicted the damage inside the opening 17 minutes with recent signing Owen Howe – his fourth goal in three games - and Eddie Perrett on target.

There were plenty more first-half talking points with Salisbury keeper Charlie Searle saving James Byrne’s penalty before Paulton’s Josh Cann was sent off for a second yellow just before the break.

Steve Claridge’s men comfortably saw out the game against ten men to move onto 35 points, one adrift of second-placed AFC Totton.

Wimborne lag two points behind Salisbury after waving goodbye to their seven-match unbeaten league run.

The Magpies slipped up 1-0 at home to Didcot Town, beaten by a ninth-minute Adam Learoyd goal.

For the second Saturday running, Winchester City were frustrated by the weather.

The Citizens were informed by Kidlington on Friday that the game at Yarnton Road was unlikely to go ahead.

Sure enough, the surface failed a 10am Saturday inspection, with Kidlington reporting: “The pitch is frozen and still has snow in some areas.”

Winchester’s lack of action means they are now seventh on 33 points.

“Whilst it’s frustrating, we’ve just got to get on with it,” said manager Craig Davis.

“We’ve slipped down the league through no fault of our own, but to be three points off second place coming into Christmas, people would have snapped your arm off for that.”
