THE glow of the FA Vase is working wonders for Hamble Club.

Since booking their ticket to the last 16 with a 4-1 win at Westfields on January 6, the merry Monks have barely put a foot wrong.

After knocking Alresford out of the Sydenhams Cup, they showed they could live with the league’s best, drawing 2-2 with Premier Division leaders Andover Town.

That fine form continued on Saturday as they pulled a top-drawer performance out of the bag to outclass Bemerton Heath Harlequins 3-0 on their own patch.

“We were no wins in six going into Westfields, but something’s clicked ever since half-time in that game,” said manager Ben Kneller.

“Vase aside, there’s such a good mood in the camp.

“We made nine changes from the Westfields game when we played Andover and there’s a real togetherness among the lads.

“We’re training well, everyone’s there and it was a really good performance by the lads at Bemerton.

“It seems we’ve turned a bit of a corner.

“Brad Magookin’s playing again after injury, Alex Blake’s back in form, Sam Wilson’s on his way back from an ankle problem and we signed (ex-AFC Totton defender) Pat Wilson a while back.”

Having bagged a brace against Andover, Jack McCarthy took just eight minutes to give Hamble the lead at Bemerton and Nick Watts doubled it midway through the first half.

The Monks’ third, a spectacular overhead kick, was a first ever goal in Hamble colours by recent signing Barry Mason from Sholing, playing up top in place of suspended striker Nathan Lynch.

Lynch, the club’s runaway 26-goal top scorer, has one more game to sit out.

That could be tomorrow's (Tuesday, 7.45pm) Hampshire FA Senior Cup quarter-final tie at National League South high-fliers Havant & Waterlooville.

But, speaking earlier today, Kneller was not convinced the tie would go ahead.

Havant’s scheduled league game against Gloucester City on Saturday was postponed due to a waterlogged Westleigh Park pitch.

“I don’t think the pitch has got any better and, from what I’m led to believe, the game’s as good as off,” said Kneller.

“We offered to switch it to our place, but they wouldn’t go for that.”

The Hawks are due to hold a pitch inspection in the morning before a final decision is made.

Having already lost two games to the weather since Christmas, boss Lee Bradbury has his fingers tightly crossed it gets the go-ahead.

"Hopefully we can get the game on because we are desperate to play," he said.

"It is frustrating because we have got a full-strength squad to choose from but can’t get games on to play."

Two other Hampshire FA Senior Cup quarter-finals are scheduled for tomorrow - Blackfield & Langley v AFC Portchester and Winchester City v Alresford Town.

The fourth - Eastleigh v AFC Bournemouth U21s - will take place next Tuesday (January 30, 7pm).
