GOSPORT Borough chairman Iain McInnes is reimbursing fans who suffered through last Saturday’s painful 5-0 defeat at Banbury United in the Evo-Stik Premier Division.
As a gesture of goodwill “for those that paid good money to travel to Banbury in such horrible conditions” the struggling Privett Park outfit have offered to repay fans the entry fee and give them £10 towards travel expenses on proof of attendance. Those who have submitted a valid claim will receive the refund at Saturday’s home match against Merthyr Town.
Unfortunately for Borough supporters, they endured another nightmare on Tuesday as Alex Pike’s basement boys were thrashed 7-1 at home by table-topping King’s Lynn.
It leaves them in a dogfight with second-to-bottom Dunstable Town to avoid the sole relegation spot.
“We clearly have some way to go before we can be comfortable about retaining our position in this league, which looks increasingly like a two-horse race,” said McInnes, who believes the support of the fans, home and away, could play “a critical part” in survival.
Former Portsmouth chairman McInnes took over at the Borough helm in December.
