CRAIG McAllister netted once again for Gosport Borough yesterday, but it wasn’t quite enough to ward off a 2-1 defeat at Hitchin Town.
The ex-Eastleigh striker received glowing praise ahead of the game from manager Alex Pike, who said: “Craig has been magnificent from day one. He has provided the leadership that had been missing.”
Having become more competitive, Gosport urgently need to start winning games if they are to pull themselves off the foot of the Evo-Stik South Premier.
Having fallen behind to a ninth-minute Robbie Burns strike, Borough hit back five minutes later when McAllister converted Pat Suraci’s cross.
The visitors defended manfully until, on 80 minutes, Lucas Kirkpatrick’s angled shot cannoned in off the far post.
