BLACKFIELD & Langley edged a point closer to Sydenhams Premier leaders Andover Town this evening after a 0-0 draw in the restaged match Lymington Town.

The Watersiders had lost the original fixture 2-1 in October, but Lymington were found guilty of fielding an ineligible player and, following a successful appeal by Blackfield, the FA ruled that the match should be replayed.

Blackfield, though, couldn’t capitalise with a win despite playing much of the game against ten men after Lymo striker Ashley Jarvis had been sent off early in the second half.

Lymington defended well, with Callum Davies outstanding, and felt aggrieved not to have been awarded a penalty when a great run by Owen Fee was abruptly halted.

The result leaves Blackfield 11 points behind long-time table-toppers Andover with three games in hand.

Alresford Town moved up to fifth with a 2-1 win at Hamble Club courtesy of Lukas McCartney and Ryan Green. Nathan Lynch bagged the Monks’ replay.

The Magpies are a point ahead of sixth-placed Horndean who had an 86th-minute Harry Jackson goal to thank for a 1-0 result at AFC Portchester.

In Sydenhams Division One, Fawley atoned for Tuesday’s hefty 7-1 hiding at Alton by beating Verwood Town 2-0.

First-half goals from Ben Murphy and Declan Hartigan restored some respectability for the Sydenhams League Cup finalists.
