SAINTS Disabled Supporters Association put an extra special smile on the face of seven-year-old George Senior as he got to experience his first football match.

George is the son of Spencer Senior, who wrote to the Saints DSA to explain his story.

Spencer had a stroke at the age of 34 resulting in seven-and-a-half hours of brain surgery which has left him with long term health problems, PTSD and unable to work.

George’s dream was to go to watch his beloved Saints, but with money a major issue the family reached out to the Saints SDA who came up trumps to provide a memorable experience at the recent game against Chelsea.

Spencer said: “George got an amazing Saints scarf with his name on and his little face when he saw that was priceless.

“He was over the moon along with the Southampton programme.

“George’s words on way home on the train were that he had the best day.

“What a first game for George to see. It was also Clare’s (Spencer’s wife) first game and she really really enjoyed it as well. So as a family we all really did have a great time. I really hope in near future we will be able to come along with George and support the Saints again.”

The Saints DSA are also sending four disabled people and enablers to the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.

The association, which is independent of the club, raises money every year and uses the proceeds to purchase season tickets, which they then hand out to fans who approach them for help.

The Saints SDA raise finances from bucket collections, and from an annual summer draw they have every year and which is always drawn at their Open Day at St Mary’s.

Currently they have four season tickets ,with two bought by a very generous benefactor.

Several Saints legends are big supporters of the association with Franny Benali an ambassador and the likes of Lawrie McMenemy, Matt Le Tissier, Jim Steele, Reuben Agboola, David Peach and the ex-Saints always ready to help out.

They said: “We believe in trying to achieve inclusion for all people, colours, creeds and religions and were shortlisted for an award by the Football Supporters Federation fans for diversity for trying to achieve diversity among our fans.

“It may surprise you to know that with a membership of 335 we are the largest supporter led group at Southampton Football Club although remaining independent from the club.

“The day for Spencer and his family, for us, makes it all worth the effort and we are just so pleased to be able to give a family a great day out on our season ticket.

“Of course, we’d like more families and individuals to add to our season ticket list - we just need people to apply."
