BLACKFIELD & Langley took a significant stride towards the Sydenhams Premier Division title with a handsome 5-0 win at Fareham Town tonight.

It was the first of three games in a hectic five-day spell for the Watersiders who needed six points to knock Andover Town off top spot.

Three of those are now safely banked thanks to a dominant performance at Cams Alders where Rudy Plummer gave them a fifthminute lead.

Sami Makhloufi and Plummer then scored a penalty apiece before Fareham chipped in with an own goal.

Makhloufi put the icing on the cake with a finely struck fifth.

On Saturday Blackfield had turned in a rare poor performance to go down 4-2 at Baffins Milton Rovers.

The Watersiders were three down at half-time, stunned by goals from Callum Dart, Jason Parrish and Fidel Sabout.

Things picked up after the break as skipper Sam Poole pulled a header back on 74 minutes and, when Makhloufi’s strike hit the back of the net with eight minutes remaining, a comeback looked on the cards.

But B&L defender Joey Byrne saw red before Joel Jackson capitalised with a late fourth for Baffins.

Delighted Rovers boss Steve Leigh said: “Blackfield are ready for Southern League football and we matched them.”

Blackfield continue their title quest at home to Hamworthy United on Wednesday (7.45pm) before rounding off their league campaign at Brockenhurst on Friday (7.45pm).

After heading the Sydenhams Premier for the bulk of the season, Andover Town bowed out with a whimper on Saturday.

They lost a surprisingly onesided game 2-0 at Sholing, who assured themselves of a thirdplaced finish thanks to Byron Mason and Lee Wort. Sholing played the better football and led on 16 minutes when TJ Cuthbertson’s far-post cross was nodded in by Mason.

That lead was doubled when Alex Sawyer teed up Lee Wort to slot home.

The Boatmen had a flurry of attacks at the start of the second half, with Sawyer having a corner cleared off the line before being denied by a terrific Luke Cairney save.

Apart from a Zach Glasspool effort poked wide and Sholing keeper Ryan Gosney denying brother Mike, Andover rarely threatened.

The league leaders have already secured promotion, but face an anxious wait this week to see if Blackfield & Langley will pip them to the league title.

Sholing kept up the good work last night, beating reigning champions Portland United 4-0 at the Universal Stadium.

Two headers - one from Wort and one from Dan Miller - separated the sides at half-time.

The Boatmen added a third on the hour when Sawyer struck from the penalty spot following a push on Dan Mason. Then, with three minutes of normal time remaining, Dan Mason poked the ball through the keeper’s legs for 4-0.

Christchurch secured the Division One title with a thumping 5-1 triumph at Hythe & Dibden.

Max Wilcock led the way with a double, backed by one apiece from Priory’s Jon Blake, Matt Neale and Scott Joyce.

Fawley AFC warmed up for Saturday’s Sydenhams Wessex League Cup final against AFC Portchester (Blanchard Wells Stadium, 3pm) with a satisfying 2-0 home win over Tadley Calleva.

Ben Murphy and Mark Lilley got the goals.

Infinity and Bush Hill battled out a 1-1 Hampshire Premier draw.

Ex-Saint Jamie White scored for Infinity while Luca Cordeddu netted for the Millbrook boys.
