SYDENHAMS Premier champions Blackfield & Langley will be one of seven former Wessex League clubs in the Southern League West next season.

The FA’s provisional league allocations for 2018/19 mean Glenn Howes' Blackfield and runners-up Andover Town will to join existing trio AFC Totton, Wimborne Town and Winchester City in the 20-strong Step 4 league.

They will be joined by Moneyfields, shifting across from the East division, and fellow promotees Thatcham Town, champions of the Hellenic Premier Division.

There will be a trio of Hampshire clubs in the National League with NL South kings Havant & Waterlooville joining Eastleigh and Aldershot Town at non-League’s top table.

Also new in are Barnet and Chesterfield, both relegated from League Two, NL North winners Salford City, plus Braintree Town and Harrogate Town who have come up via the play-offs.

A National League System shake-up aimed at reducing travelling times and costs sees the introduction of a fourth Step 3 Division, the Southern League Central, along with a seventh division at Step 4, the Isthmian League South Central.

Local interest at Step 3 level is in the Southern League South where Hampshire quartet Basingstoke Town, Farnborough, Gosport Borough and newly-promoted Hartley Wintney will be joined by Steve Claridge’s upwardly mobile Salisbury plus Dorset trio Weymouth, Dorchester and relegated NL South outfit Poole Town.
