BRENDON King has left his post as manager of Sydenhams Wessex Premier outfit Hamworthy United – and his successor is already on his way.

Poole Town have revealed that their assistant manager/head coach Callum Brooks “has been offered and has accepted” the chance to manage the Hammers.

Poole explained: "Callum has long held an ambition to be a manager in his own right if an attractive opportunity arose. "He leaves on the best of terms and with our thanks for a brilliant job done whilst in our service.

He is a great coach and will be a great manager. "Callum is very much involved with other projects within the club away from the first team and his involvement with those projects will continue."

Explaining the change at the Hammers helm, chairman Steve Harvey said: “We feel it is time we change how the playing side is set up quite drastically and that means bringing in a new manager with a slightly different way of thinking.

“We spent a little bit more money last season, but now we have decided to try to develop our own players in-house and make use of the great facilities we have available to us.

“The new manager will help us follow a three-year plan to get into the Southern League.”

Former Weymouth boss King arrived at the County Ground in November 2016 and guided Hammers to their highest Wessex Premier finish of fifth in his first full season in charge.

“Brendon is a lovely man who is a good manager at our level and above,” added Harvey.

“We are extremely grateful for the efforts of Brendon during his time here and we are proud of him for achieving the club’s highest finish.

“However, as a club, we feel it is time to move in a new direction in order to eventually achieve promotion.”
