EX-SAINT Oscar Gobern has been unveiled as Eastleigh's first summer signing.

The 27-year-old midfielder has winged his way to the Spitfires from Yeovil Town.

Gobern has put pen to paper on a one-year deal and will link up with the Eastleigh squad when they return to training later this month.

A former England under-19 international, Gobern was born in Birmingham and joined the Saints Academy in 2008 after a brief spell with Aston Villa.

He made his debut for Southampton in 2008 and had a short time on loan at MK Dons the following year.

He scored twice in 13 appearances for Saints when they won promotion from League One.

From there he went on to play for Huddersfield Town, Mansfield and Ross County.

He was a free agent before Yeovil signed him last December on non-contract terms until the end of last season. He made 14 appearances for the League Two side.

Eastleigh boss Andy Hessenthaler said: “I am absolutely thrilled to get this over the line.

"Oscar has a decent pedigree and played at a good level. He is young and hungry and will be a big addition to the playing squad.

“I would also like to thank the club in their efforts to get the deal completed. I know there has been a lot of hard work gone on behind the scenes and I can’t thank them enough.”

Gobern himself said: “After speaking to the Gaffer and Strevs (Ben Strevens, assistant) it was clear what their intentions are and it was a no brainer for me to come down.

"The potential this club has is tremendous and I want to be a part of it.”

Yeovil's official website reported: "Upon the conclusion of the 2017/18 season, Oscar Gobern was initially offered a new deal by manager Darren Way before further discussions concluded with the club deciding that the midfielder's future would lie elsewhere.

"All at YTFC would like to thank Oscar for his efforts and wish him all the best for his new chapter at the Silverlake Stadium."
