HAMPSHIRE captain James Vince has told his players to ensure they have no regrets after tomorrow’s Lord’s final against Kent.

Vince leads Hampshire into their eighth Lord’s final and their first since beating Warwickshire off the final ball to complete the limited-overs double in 2012.

He said: “It’s been a great effort from everyone to get there. Now we just have to make sure we turn-up. We’re not happy with just making the day, we’ve got to make the day one to remember by winning a trophy.

“Having played in big games before definitely helps but we’ve got a good mix of youth and experience in our side and it’ll be the first occasion for some of the guys.

“It’s important that we enjoy the day and don’t get caught up in putting too much pressure on ourselves.

“We’ve got to play exactly how we’ve done through the tournament so far - that gives us our best chance of winning.”

Recalling the win in 2012, when he was just 21, Vince said: “I don’t remember too much of the day. I remember the last over and Kabi (Kabir Ali) and Batesy (Michael Bates) being up at the stumps.

“They needed just one run and a tie was good enough for us. Kabi bowled a good yorker, Batesy took the bails off and we ran around like idiots for five minutes.

“From then, a lot of Hampshire fans were packed over on the far side, and we walked around with the trophy. Everyone’s families were there and it’s a special occasion, that back end of the game and the couple of hours after live long in the memory.

“People remember finals and the 11 that takes the field has a great opportunity to stand up and be remembered for winning that final for Hampshire.”

Vince, who has hit centuries in his last two One-Day Cup games, has captained Hampshire at three T20 Finals days but this will be his first final as captain,

“I’ve obviously been captain for a little while and everyone is pretty comfortable with their role in the team.

“I’m happy I know what people are good at and not so good at. I’m pretty clear in what we need to do, it just comes down to who executes it better on the day.

“Winning a trophy gives everyone a big lift, it’s something you remember for a long time and hopefully it can give us momentum going into the Twenty20.”
