WINCHESTER City's planned friendly at home to Sutton United this evening is OFF.

The National League side have a significant amount of injuries and dare not risk losing any more first-team players ahead of the big kick-off on August 4.

The postponement at least gives City more time to spend on their pitch in preparation for Saturday's visit of Eastleigh (3pm).

After that they have home friendlies against Dorchester on Wednesday, August 1 (7.45pm) and Weymouth on Saturday, August 4 (3pm).

Winchester last night battled out a 1-1 draw at Bashley in the Dave Jose Memorial Cup and went on the lift the trophy via a penalty shootout.

Tyrell Mitford had given City a 24th minute lead which was wiped out by a late Brad Strickland spot kick.

Commenting on the game, manager Craig Davis said: "Our goal was a spectacular overhead volley from Tyrell.

"We could have wrapped the game up, but got sloppy in front of goal and around the edge of their box and didn't pick the passes we needed that would have killed the game far earlier.

"They equalised in the eighth minute of injury time, which was odd!

"It went to pens and Prycey (keeper Ryan Pryce) pulled off a great save to win it for us after scoring a pen of his own.

"Thanks to our friends from Bashley. We wish them well."
