IT was third time lucky for Fareham Town as they registered their first win of the new Sydenhams Premier season.

Pete Stiles’ men turned on the style to see off Shaftesbury 2-0 at Cams Alders.

The Creeksiders missed chances a plenty before taking the lead on 61 minutes when an Ash Tattersall cross reached Lamin Jatta who fired low past the keeper.

Six minutes later Fareham survived a scare as Shaftesbury’s Taoufik Ben-Salem hit the top of the bar.

Town had some defending to do, but they relieved the pressure when Gary Austin rounded the keeper and smashed the ball into the empty net.

It turned the tide on a poor start to the season for Town who had lost successive league games against Tadley and Cowes before bowing out of the FA Cup to Frimley Green.

Stiles said “The players knew they hadn’t performed and owed it to themselves and the supporters to rectify that today and we’ve done that.

"It’s now up to them to continue that on Wednesday at Follands (in the Hampshire FA Senior Cup).”
