SAINTS are reportedly in talks with Belgian high-fliers Genk for attacking right-back Joakim Maehle.

The Denmark U21 international moved to Genk from Danish outfit Aalborg (Aab) in 2017 and has played a key role in their impressive season so far.

Genk, the club that produced Kevin de Bruyne, are seven points clear at the top of the Jupiler League.

They also topped their Europa League table and the versatile Maehle has been an ever-present in both competitions.

If Saints right-back Cedric Soares was to leave St Mary’s - and he has already been linked with Everton this month – Maehle would provide useful cover alongside the relatively inexperienced Yan Valery.

Maehle would join compatriots Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Jannik Vestergaard at St Mary’s.
