SAINTS boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has revealed that Moussa Djenepo is in a race against time to be fit for this weekend.

The winger suffered a muscle injury against Fulham in the Carabao Cup, which led to him missing the 1-1 draw with Manchester United prior to the international break.

And, although he has been able to use the short amount of time without playing a match, Hasenhuttl implied he'll have to make a late call on Djenepo's fitness for Sheffield United.

Saints' boss said: “You know that Kevin Danso is suspended and that he isn’t going to be available.

“Everyone came back from the international break without any injuries, so that is good news.

“The bad news is that Nathan is still not available for us. With Moussa, it looks better, but if it’s enough for him to play at the weekend, we will have to look.

“Michael is in the training session again and Ryan has been training with the team.

“They are both options and the rest is good.”

Defender Ryan Bertrand has been missing with an ankle injury since Saints hosted Liverpool back in August.

The left-back has missed three games on the trot, with captain Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg having to play fill in the void away to Fulham.

But ahead of this weekend’s match with Sheffield United, Bertrand is back training and could return for the trip to Bramall Lane.

When asked if the defender’s made good progress, Hasenhuttl added: “Yeah. Absolutely.

“Because of the suspended players, we have to look for a new left-back and he can be one option.”
