Nigel Pearson has moved quickly to make Ian Pearce his first signing as Saints boss.

The experienced 33-year-old Fulham centre half joins on a one month loan and comes straight into contention for a place in the starting line-up at Scunthorpe tomorrow with Andrew Davies and Darren Powell both injury doubts for the game.

Pearson said: "I'm delighted to have brought Ian Pearce in on loan.

"He's an experienced head. Calm, confident and a quality player."

Pearce has featured in every Premier League season since it began in 1992 and has a top flight winner's medal form his spell at Blackburn.

He has also played for West Ham and Fulham after starting his career as a trainee at Chelsea.

Nice one Nigel

First no-nonsense nasty bugger in.

Im very happy with this signing i must admit. a bit of steel in the defence is just what we need...How long until he gets injured!?

Excellent job. Well done Nigel.

A good no-nonsense defender who isn't afraid to get stuck in, or kick a few of the arses in front of him. ( A bit like Nigel Pearson himself!)
He is also familiar with the type of scrap we've got ahead of us, and that experience will be crucial in the next few weeks.

Alongside Andrew Davies, we'll have a back pairing capable of plugging the dirty great gap that has let in more goals than any other club! If we can stop those goals going in, maybe we'll have a better chance of getting a few points.
Build from the back and keep going forward!

Hopefully Ian Pearce will also be able to last more than one game before he get's injured. That is something our other defenders don't seem capable of at the moment. It's called fitness - and not many of our players seem to have that! Thanks for that George.

Ian Pearce is a cracking signing. Without getting too excited at this early stage, I think things are starting to look better already!

Come on you reds!

I think I am correct in saying that he is the same age as Sol Campbell!

When Pompey signed Campbell, the comments on these channels were all about 'signing old men'!

With that in mind, I wonder how those critics view the age of this signing?

He is here for 30 days to kick some backsides.
Not on a contract to earn lots of cash for himelf and his agent (not forgetting 'arrys 10%)

Superb that Nasty Nige can get a player of this quality inside 4 days. Just shows how inept we were.

N. In other words, a short term panic deal which, by your description, will probably mean a few cards, rather than a longer term fixture!

I appreciate that he would not be earning 'lots of cash', because there is not a lot of cash to be earned - that is why Nutty Nige is on his type of contract, and no 'experienced' manager wanted the job!

I suppose Fulham were very unhappy that they do not have to pay his wages for a month! It will help pay Fayed's legal bills!

Didn't take long for that oft quoted football "played by England and Newcastle" to be abandoned.

Just lump it up to the frontmen and see if they can barge their way towards the goal.

Well, desperate times calls for desparate measures, if it works, I'll be sad, but I won't complain.

Don't knock Bennett,

He is better and more reliable than some that have played there this season.

Powell, Lundekvam (just when will he give it up and save us paying his wages - surely another two loanees can come in for that)

Bennett had a shaky start, but formed a good playing style with Andrew Davies.

I'd welcome him back.

Thank George he's gone club, Soton says...

So it took Pearson just three days to realise that the defence needed some quality when it took Burley about 6 months to do nothing!

Says it all really.

All he needs to do now is get rid of Euell, Wright, Powell and Lundekvam an he'll become a legend at St Mary's

Great news! Combine him with Davies in the back spine and we have a strong central pairing, Vignal on the left and Thomas on the right. Only concern is that Davis, et al are not used to him so don't expect miracles immediately. But at least he won't be afraid to let the opposition strikers know he's there!

Nasty Nige is making an impact already, where are the doubters now?!

Quality Signing, Well In Pearson!

Andrew Davies And Ian Pearce Centre Back Will Be A Well Good Combination!!

Only If Phil Ifil Could Come Back And Fill In At Right Back And Then Vignal Left Back.. Would Be A Quality Back Four!!!

Now We Just Need Dyer Back And Then Him And Hammil On The Wings And Surman And Safri In The Middle Of The Park.

Wright-Phillips Or McGoldrick With Cedric Baseya Or John UpFront!!

That Would Be A Well Good Team In My Opinion!:D

Does Sailor Sam not have anything better to do than comment on daily echo pages about a completely different team to the one he supports? It is quite sad. Maybe you have suffered years of grief for all the time that Saints were in the top division while you were nowhere in the lower leagues...or maybe you are still bitter that you still don't have a youth acedemy structure to compare with Saints whose is one of the best in the country with top class training facilities and a premiership quality stadium. Are you really just happy to have made it to the top by spending millions of pounds to compare with Chelsea...by a manager who just wants to keep making signings and picking up his dodgy %, and not interested in developing players.

When Saints get back up...which we will...we will be a much better investment opportunity and will be able to sustain it for longer. You should enjoy being where you are for now because Leeds is where you're heading when it all falls apart.

Well Stash, I was just pointing out that when Sol Campbell was signed by PFC, there were a lot of Yah Boos on these pages about Pompey signing Old Men!
The fact that it was 'QUALITY OLD MEN' who were still at the top of their game, and recognized as such, was not mentioned.
All I wanted to know is, how did those people who criticised Pompey then, view this latest move by their club, albiet the player they have recruited has never reached the same high standard that Sol has reached, and is still playing at?
Like me now, they made no mention of the word 'experience' then!

A decent enough signing, well done.

Hopefully he'll be a leader on the pitch, which is what we need.

Not being negative, as it's all he can do, but it's time fans and clubs united against the transfer window, which, in my opinion, got us relegated and is creating a player power problem at clubs across the country.

It's also created a situation where, as soon as we build a team, we lose half the players.

Dailly and Bennett this season, Chaplow, Guffrey, Ifll, excuse the spelling.

It creates a real continuity problem, especially at the back.

Fine if we can keep him if he does well, bad news if not – don't want to be rebuilding the back four again for the run-in.

In response to sailor "skate" samantha! Arry redcrapp has signed quality players near their retirement age and i admit has done very well out of them, however these players will retire soon! and as it showed when your players left for africa cup of nations you need ALL of your squad, so when the likes of campbell, james, distin, Hreidarsson, kanu, baros, diop, primus and when defoe gets bored of his girlfriend at the time, may i be as bold as to suggest even GAYdamak's dirty money wont be able to afford a replacement? and as you have no youth developement, i for one saints fan or not, suggest your current blip of success will end.
Now in the odd chance i have made a grave mistake and you have any slight intelligence or knowledge of football i await your response. however if i am right and you dont have any intelligence or football nous i will await your usual childish response, as many pompey fans do respond, with the who cares we're a league above you!

She appeared to be a bright, intelligent young lady (even though she has a season ticket at SMS). Now you are on here, responding to one of my notes. With the HA HA HA HA that you start your drivel, it would appear that I have made you laugh as well! So it would appear that I amuse all tastes, from the bright, intelligent Saints Chic to the moronic like yourself! If I am toothache, I would suggest you are more akin to haemorrhoids! A self-proclaimed 'life and soul of the party' that everyone else considers to be A PAIN IN THE ARSE!
Actually I quite fancy you now, you're making me wet xx
Yeah like I'd ever fancy a Pompey fan.

I know sarcasm is the lowest form of wit but i didn't realise it would go straight over everybody's heads!!

Now in the odd chance i have made a grave mistake and you have any slight intelligence or knowledge of football i await your response. however if i am right and you dont have any intelligence or football nous i will await your usual childish response, as many pompey fans do respond, with the who cares we're a league above you! p.s may i also add that in the many, MANY years that saints were above you, the response from pompey fans is "just cause you are a league above us doesnt make you a better team!"
So Jenny Jones, what do you want to know?
The players that you claim are near retirement, would be on contracts that are comensurate with that age, and the probable length of their careers.
Kanu, for example, should he not play the required number of games this season, he will not get another YEAR on his contract!
With the competent way that Peter Storrie handles the contracts, and the years of experience he has had in that role, both at PFC and elsewhere, I cannot imagine that we will have any of them 'signed on for life'!
As you may have seen recently, Benjani was sold, and Defoe, two years younger, was brought in as a replacement! PFC do not sell unless there is a replacement of better standard available to replace them.
O'Neill and Taylor were replaced with better performers.
If SFC had used the same policy, perhaps you would still be our opposition, rather than our poor neighbours!
Now, if you think that what I have said shows a lack of football nous and slight intelligence, then may I suggest that you would appear to have all the qualifications to fit in nicely with the current directors at SFC!
Regarding your last sentence. Perhaps we were saying that because we could see the writing on the wall, and knew that you were heading for 'self destruct'!
Don't blame Pompey fans, or me in particular, for your club's demise.

It started before Askham sold up, and Big Mac took his money and ran, and nothing has been done to halt the slide.

All I can advise is, GET A LIFE AND FACE REALITY.

MAY I ASK, 'WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO HELP YOUR CLUB, OTHER THAN BUY A TICKET, A PROGRAMME AND A STRIPED SHIRT'?

I BET THE ANSWERE IS

I think it's a good signing, as long as Pearson don't do what George loved to do, and not play his loan signings.

I'm going to Scunthorpe tomorrow, I had no hope the other day, but this brings a LITTLE GLIMMER OF HOPE!

I thought I'd also point out that I left early for the first time the other night, just because I didn't want to hear the embaressing amount of boo's ringing around the ground because although they kinda deserved some kind of stick, I don't like to give anyone real negative feedback.

Well well well sailor Samantha, you have got a long memory, bearing in mind that you've been supporting the blue few for over fifty years! We probably mentioned the fact that David James is getting rather long in the tooth too.But I bet no one said anything about the experience they could bring to the team. What I would say about this signing is; He bring's experience to our team, but he is getting on a bit. What do you say then Sailor Samantha?
Well Stash, I was just pointing out that when Sol Campbell was signed by PFC, there were a lot of Yah Boos on these pages about Pompey signing Old Men! The fact that it was 'QUALITY OLD MEN' who were still at the top of their game, and recognized as such, was not mentioned. All I wanted to know is, how did those people who criticised Pompey then, view this latest move by their club, albiet the player they have recruited has never reached the same high standard that Sol has reached, and is still playing at? Like me now, they made no mention of the word 'experience' then! IT WAS NOT A TRICK QUESTION!

WELCOME BACK PRINCESS!
I have been so worried about you!
Do you realise that it is nearly THREE DAYS (R)THREE DAYS since you last reminded everyone about how many times you had been to Wembley, and how you had conquered Europe!

Don't forget to refresh our memories about how many times you have been to Wembley!

I honestly cannot believe your claims, especially to see the cup final in 1976, because, even if you had been born there when the final was being played, that would make you nearly 32, which usually means you would now be an ADULT!
But the childish nonsense that you put on here about 'Fook', living in a caravan in Leigh Park etc gives a truer indication that you are a Juvenile, and a 'special needs' one at that!

So I am paying £100 per week to watch Campbell! That's news to me!
If I were, I guess that, being a current England International, I would be getting better value for my money than watching a player who can't hold down a place at Fulham!

Why did Campbell join Pompey? Like you, I DON'T KNOW but, unlike you, I will not be putting some childish reason on here. Could it possibly be that he saw, with a competent, experienced manager, he would once more enjoy his football? I am not saying that is the reason, but seeing him perform for THE ONLY PREMIER LEAGUE CLUB ON THE SOUTH COAST, it would be a pretty good indication.

So it's not rocket science!
At the home of THE ONLY PREMIER LEAGUE CLUB ON THE SOUTH COAST, there is no call for rocket science or a rocket scientist!
Pompey play their football on the grass!
Having seen the recent expolits of our underpriviledged neighbours on television, I guess that they have a need there for a rocket scientist, as there seems to be an overwhelming desire to put the ball, instead of into the net, but INTO ORBIT!

Maybe that is why when one football pundit, when asked to describe the Stains brand of football said that it was 'LIKE NOTHING ON EARTH'!

Oh! Lest I forget!

DON'T FORGET TO REMIND EVERYONE HOW MANY TIMES YOU HAVE BEEN TO WEMBLEY, AND THAT YOU WENT TO EUROPE.

Greetings!
Just to put the record straight, my last addition to this page was at 8.28pm yesterday.
It would appear that there are some, totally lacking in initiative or creativity, could not remember their own names, so copied the name of the person they apparently regard as their hero! Sailor Sam!

What excellent news! Your very own Princess from Bittern is in gainful employment!
As it has meant being away from home for a few days, I guess it can't be in a charity shop (ie Stains Mega store?), maybe a few days at The Priory!

Good heavens Princess! You must be an intellectual! However did you work out that Campbell, a PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALLER came to Portsmouth for MONEY? Did you think that we all believed he was an amateur?
With a number of clubs, many wealthier than PFC wanting his services, why do you think that he would want to come to a club that you claim is £24m in the red, with an owner on the point of walking away?
I reckon you must be a Fairy Princess, living in a dream world, having long since lost touch with reality!
You give a lot of unsubstantiated nonsense about Pompey being in debt to the tune of
£24m, but have no evidence to back up your statement!
That clarion of investigative journalism, The Echo has not reported such findings, nor have The News, local radio, national radio of national press - so, what is your source?
I can only suppose that you have repeated this lie to yourself so often, that you have now come to believe it!
There is an old saying, PUT UP OR SHUT UP! I guess that it would be to much to expect for you to do either!

So you think that loaning Nugent to Ipswich, and getting them to pay, is because we are in financial trouble!
I call it good business!
If SFC was run by businessmen instead of a crowd of 'Ronald McDonalds' (Big Mac's clowns), they would have done a similar deal with the players they put out on loan 'To Lighten The Wage Bill!
That, to my mind, is PRICELESS!
What PFC did with Ipswich was Price Paid!

Well, I must get the thermals out, and get ready for another visit to FRATTON PARK, THE HOME OF THE ONLY PREMIER LEAGUE FOOTBALL TEAM ON THE SOUTH COAST!

We welcome Sunderland today and I can assure you that

WIN LOSE OR DRAW, I WILL NOT BE LEAVING BEFORE HALF TIME, I WILL NOT BE BOOING MY TEAM, I WILL NOT BE 'SLAGGING OFF' MY MANAGER AND WILL NOT BE DEMANDING THAT THE OWNER SELLS UP!

I GUESS THAT, HAVING THAT ATTITUDE IS THE REASON WHY I WOULD NEVER BE ACCEPTED AS A STAINS 'CUSTOMER'!

I Note that at ten minutes past mid-night this morning, you were closing down so that you could refresh your memory of past glories by watching the video of the Stains 1976 FA Cup triumph (thanks to the goal scored by Pompey born and bred, Bobby Stokes).
I guess that means that you would not be in bed before 2.30am.

I wonder how much sleep you will get before you have to leave for the trip to SCUNTHORPE!

I trust that you will give your comments on the match when you return home!

So it took Pearson just three days to realise that the defence needed some quality when it took Burley about 6 months to do nothing! Says it all really. All he needs to do now is get rid of Euell, Wright, Powell and Lundekvam an he'll become a legend at St Mary's Nigel Pearson's Red and White Army
Hey c'mon - Claus has been a loyal servant to the club for 10 years, he does not deserve any criticism whatsoever. Have some respect.

He is here for 30 days to kick some backsides. Not on a contract to earn lots of cash for himelf and his agent (not forgetting 'arrys 10%) Superb that Nasty Nige can get a player of this quality inside 4 days.
Strange as it may seem, I was NOT at Scunthorpe today, but have heard the result!

Perhaps the first sentence of my last input was a bit prophetic!

Who gave away the penalty?

You are obviously ****, or you are not the genuine SS...TERRIBLE GRAMMER AND SPELLING!!!
Hi Chris Wille!
Most of the pieces posted on here come from customers of Southampton Football Club!
It is a pleasant change to have a contribution from Oregon, USA, which, like Southampton England, is not recognized as a place where quality football is to be found!
For your information, it was not me, the Genuine 'Sailor Sam' that made the contribution, but some moron who was not bright enough to think up a name of their own!

I am sorry that you, a foreigner, whose first language is not English, should find it necessary to use an expletive that had to be 'bleeped', but guess you did not know the correct word!
With regard my spelling! I think that it is pretty good, and assume that GRAMMER is the american way of spelling GRAMMAR, which is the correct, English way!

Have a nice day, you hear now!

Oops, Yes I did mis-spell grammar. By the way, I am an Englishman, not a foreigner, so therefore my mother tongue is English. Can't think what the bleeped expletive was, but I must have been upset at the time old chap. By the way Sam, what does "With regard my spelling" mean? None of us are perfect apparently.
