JAN Poortvliet can't wait to unleash his talented youngsters on the Coca Cola Championship.
The Saints head coach admits he has "never seen" the sort of quality some of the club's much-heralded young players possess.
"Since I joined Southampton, the quality in the squad I have seen is lovely," said the Dutchman. "They're ready in terms of football and physically.
"How they handle he pressure we will see.
"I believe in the boys because they have qualities - I've never seen qualities like it."
In an exclusive interview in today's Daily Echo Saints pre-season special, Poortvliet admits he is aiming high.
"In terms of our aims this season, myself I go out to play for the prizes," he remarked.
"You have to believe in it and when I see the quality I believe in it.
"The only thing I don't know is the quality of all the opponents.
"There is a lot of quality because they say there is 150 international players in the Championship, so there must be a lot of quality.
"In football when you have a team that can play and believe in each other you have a chance."
