FORMER Saints defender Alexander Ostlund has joined Danish top-flight club Esbjerg fB.

Saints released the 29 year-old Swedish international full-back at the end of last season when his contract came to an end.

And this week he signed a two-year deal at EfB, which runs until 2010.

Ostlund said: "I hoped initially to stay in England, where my family and I thrived, and I liked the football. But when that was no longer possible I looked to Scandinavian football, where the quality of the Danish league is the best.

"Now I aim to show Esbjerg and the club's fans what I can do. I got a very good impression of the city, club and coach when I was here."

Ostlund made 48 appearances in two and a half years at Saints following his arrival from Dutch First Division side Feyenoord.

Having moved to the Danish Superliga, he is likely to come up against a familiar face in Marek Saganowski.

The 29 year-old Polish striker was loaned out to defending Superliga champions Aalborg BK by Saints earlier this month.

As much as the fans liked him he wasn't the best of players and clearly wasn't fit enough for a 46 match league season. Football in Denmark is less demanding and will probably suit him better.

True but I thought he had a bit of style.

Always showed passion for the club. He seemed to know when a full blooded challenge was required to lift the fans and the team.

However like Rudi somehow we never seemed to get the best out of him

I just hope he doesnt nobble Saga!

Good luck to a nice guy although I think he was more interested in looking good than being fit. Great character but not good enough.
