HAMPSHIRE streets could be named after the county's medal-winning Olympic sailors if plans by civic leaders go ahead.

New Forest District Council bosses have hinted at the possibility of renaming roads after Ben Ainslie, Pippa Wilson and Nick Rogers, who returned home from the Beijing Games as heroes after picking up two golds and a silver.

If the plans go ahead, roads could now be known as "Ainslie Avenue" or "Wilson Walk".

The idea is just one being considered as part of celebrations to honour the Olympians, which will also include an open-top bus tour of Lymington, provisionally set for October 4.

The celebrations are being co-ordinated by New Forest District Council, Lymington Town Council and the Lymington Society.

Iain Percy, who won his second Olympic gold medal in Qingdao, will also be honoured by his home city of Winchester.

A spokeswoman for Winchester City Council said civic celebrations for Iain Percy were currently in the pipeline.

"She said: "We definitely will do something to celebrate Iain's magnificent achievement but we are still in discussions about what form the celebrations will take.

"In the past we have organised open-top bus tours and receptions with the Mayor but it is too soon to say exactly what will take place
