MICHAEL Brown has insisted that this week’s big match against Nottinghamshire will NOT be his last for Hampshire.
The 28-year-old is Hampshire’s leading Championship run-scorer for the second successive season and was reported to be on the verge of a move to relegated Surrey over the weekend.
Surrey are in a state of flux on and off the pitch and are believed to want Brown to open the batting with Scott Newman as they prepare for what they hope will be a promotion-winning season next year.
Brown, who signed for Hampshire from Surrey’s arch-rivals Middlesex in 2004, is keen to follow James Bruce’s path to a career in the City.
Playing at The Oval would ensure he does not have to travel far for work experience, but he has laughed off the speculation.
He said: “Cricket is becoming like football with all the transfer talk. I’m under contract to Hampshire next year and am not going anywhere.”
