SAINTS Academy coach Stewart Henderson believes Oscar Gobern can be a first team player for the rest of the season, after his sensational debut at Preston.
At just 17-years-old, Gobern became one of the youngest players ever to make a league appearance for Saints, ahead of the likes of Matt Le Tissier, Terry Paine and Rod Wallace.
His introduction as a half-time substitute at Deepdale for left-sided midfielder Ryan Smith was the catalyst for an incredible comeback, as Saints rallied from 2-0 down for an improbable 3-2 victory.
Gobern joined from Aston Villa at the start of last season and signed his first professional contract earlier this year, tying him to St Mary’s until 2011.
He has been a regular in the reserves and Henderson’s under-18 side this campaign.
