Saints boss Mark Wotte will be keeping his fingers crossed that Marek Saganowski comes through international duty unscathed.

The Polish striker, pictured, could well start for his country tonight in their Group Three World Cup qualifier at home to San Marino after coming off the bench to score against Northern Ireland on Saturday.

That goal marked the end of nine months in the international wilderness for Saganowski, who has become a focal point of the Saints team after returning from his loan spell at Danish club Aalborg.

Poland’s game tonight in Kielce is one they must win if they are to have a realistic chance of reaching the 2010 finals in South Africa.

San Marino are rock bottom of the group without a win in their five matches so far but Poland are only one place better off, albeit they have seven points from their five matches.

Of more interest to Wotte and all Saints fans, though, will be Saganowski’s fitness.
