TWO-goal hero Jan-Paul Saeijs admitted he was disappointed Saints failed to win at Vicarage Road last night.

The Dutch defender scored his first goals for the club, including a stunning 89th minute free-kick that earned Saints a 2-2 draw against Watford.

However, he was still frustrated they failed to take three points from a game in which they were on top for long spells.

“The emotion is a little bit disappointing, because I think we could win here,” he said.

“We conceded two a little bit stupid goals.

“We didn’t concede much out of corners and free kicks the last couple of weeks and now it’s one corner and they hit the 2-1 and then you’re disappointed.

“Luckily I scored a great goal, but in the end you draw and you get away with one point, but I would rather have a win here than the draw.”

He added: “It’s a draw and hopefully we will be safe to the end of the season with this point.”

Saeijs shouldered a lot of the blame for the defensive woes in Saturday’s 3-2 loss to Charlton.

So he was delighted to go a long way to redeeming himself with two strikes last night.

“Definitely, I played a bad game on Saturday,” he said.

“The trainer said ‘I’ll put you in the squad because I know you can play better and you’ll let us see that you can play better, so prepare to play a good match.’ “I think that I played a good match.

“If you don’t look at the goals I think I played a normal match, but with the goals it’s a perfect match.”
