Nigel Pearson would not want to return to Southampton

NIGEL Pearson would not be interested in a return to Southampton Football Club, it has been claimed.

According to a spokesman for Leicester City, the former Saints boss would not have any interest in a return to St. Mary's.

It is understood that the Pinnacle consortium have placed Pearson near the top of their short list of potential managers.

However his current club have rubbished the possibility of him leaving the team he has just guided to the League One title and promotion back to the Championship.

It comes as Matt Le Tissier has revealed Kevin Keegan is not the only man he has talked to about the managerial vacancy.

Keegan has been heavily linked with a return to Southampton but Le Tissier said: "Kevin is not the only one I have sat down and talked to. I have sat down and talked to a lot of my contacts in the game."

He added: "We need to clarify the manager's position and we will look at that, I have spoken to a lot of people and taken a lot of advice and when the takeover is complete we will sit down and talk about it.

"For me this is a new job and I need to gather as much information as I can and there are several other people I have spoken to and no decision on a new manager has been made."

• The Daily Echo revealed at the weekend that a rival bid headed by Dorset businessman Marc Jackson has lined up a current international manager to lead the League One team.

Mr Jackson has refused to disclose the identity of the manager, but the Echo understands it is Thailand manager Peter Reid.

Reid, who made seven appearances for Saints in 1993/94, was last month also linked with a company planning a bid for Premier League Everton FC.

I would love to see it just to shove two fingers up at Lowe and that everybody wanted the man he got rid of for his dutch nightmare!

I think Lowe secretly wanted us to go down.

COME BACK PEARSON, though I doubt you would.

The Fans and everyone related to the Club adore you, it's just a shame that one man had the say over 32'000 fans, 30 squad players and 100's of staff involved with the club!

doesnt this ring alarm bells about Pinnacle's credibility, and their sense of setting out a clear, effective and realistic plan for the club going forward?

Grow up.

The world isn't all positivity and just because you don't deem it 'positive speculation' doesn't render it unimportant.

Peter Reid - hardly set the world alight at Man City or Sunderland and Thailand are only a couple or so rankings above Andorra. Not the man we need then nor is Pearson. He did very well managing a team of reasonable Championship players led by one we shouldn't have let go but his tenure at SMS didn't bring inspiring football. Hopefully this afternoon wil bring some good news and let MLT and the new board get things moving.

Adrian, so when the story is based on complete **** i should grow up? I just dont like storys that have no foundations and are obviously space fillers.

I completely agree everything shouldnt be sugar coated. As they say theres no new like bad news.

But the fact is for once we're in a period where we can be positive and theres more than enough to talk about than to try fill the paper with complete and utter fabrication and wild speculation!!

For shame Echo.

I read a lot of comments on this site that slate the echo unjustly. However in this case i agree that this story is plain c**p. Just because MLT has said KK isn't the only one he's talked to, they are saying NP is "near the top of the list"! Based on what grounds?

Its vague, unfounded speculation with no purpose.

I suspect there are many names in the hat and until the takeover is complete, this is all pointless speculation.

sw: lazy-wine (lazy journalism i say!)

Why do people like you constantly have a go at what the Echo publishes... you start to look really silly as you clearly keep reading it!

Why the hell would he come back as doubt he has any fond memories other than last game of the season and that's not to mention his team is in CCC and Saints have gone the opposite direction?!

Suspect the full quote from Pearson simply said 'ha ha ha' over and over

Please God no to Peter Reid!!

NP not wanting to come back to Saints. I bet that took him at least 2.5 nanoseconds to reach that conclusion, if ever he gave ait a passing thought.

Also I can reveal exclusively that a whole host of Managers and Ex Managers, would not come to Saints. This list is far too long for here. Why the heck should they?

We are in League 1, (perhaps), 10 points deducted, no sign of a 'take over', nor ever likely to be as things stand.

Would you want the job? If so maybe get down to St Mary's and apply!
