Marc Jackson says he wants to step in if Southampton deals collapse

MARC Jackson is formulating a “rescue package” to save Saints should the remaining bids to buy the club collapse.

The Dorset businessman revealed the group was in talks with administrators and the Football League last night.

But he said the group, comprised of an equity fund and a wealthy individual, would only take control “as a last resort”.

Ironically, it is the same consortium that submitted the first official bid two months ago before the Pinnacle Group was awarded exclusivity.

The latest development comes just 24 hours after another bid fronted by Mr Jackson withdrew from the race just hours before the Pinnacle Group dramatically disintegrated.

As revealed by the Echo, a group with financial backers in Israel pulled out because of pressure to complete a quick deal.

“We have now gone full circle,” Mr Jackson told the Daily Echo.

“We now have exactly the same group we had before Pinnacle signed exclusivity. They never really went away, their view was that their bid always stayed in place.

“This will be a rescue package. I do not want to put off any of the other bids, but we will be here if all else fails.”

The Echo understands the bid would be well below administrator Mark Fry’s target sale price of about £15m.

The group’s original bid was rejected by Mr Fry as it was based on instalments paid on future promotion to the Championship and, ultimately, the Premier League.

Mr Jackson said the new bid, the value of which he would not reveal, was in place to help stave off liquidation of the club’s assets.

“We are trying to structure it so that it protects the club,” he said.

“If no one comes forward and purchases the club Mark Fry will be in a position where he has to put the club into administration.

“He could structure it in a way that is not as bad for the club and potentially ask the Football League to not impose any further point deductions.”

Current Thailand manager and former Saints player Peter Reid has been made Mr Jackson’s top target to lead the team in League One.

Reid denied that he had been approached for the job, but said he would be open to offers.

Rescue Package?

He could start with his own credibility.

Pi$$ Jackson you've had your chance and couldn't come up with the cash. Getting fed up with these people spouting off hotair in the media. I'd rather one of the silent groups took over as they seem to know how to conduct themselves in a professional way and not constantly hog the lime-light. We had enough of that with Lowe, Wilde and Crouch!

Message to the Echo :-
Stop giving this waste of space any column inches. IMO everyone knows he is joined at the hip to the dark-lord and is therefore totally unacceptable.

MJ only appears when there is an "real offer" being discussed. He is only there "to be kept in the loop" and pass on any info.
Didn't you notice that as soon as PG (MLT) dropped out, he also dropped out.

If the Swiss drop out, he will as well.

Then when Salz comes up with a group suddenly MJ will reappear again.

LOL at all previous posts. Not having a club is a very real possibility. These 2 silent consortiums can walk away anonymous if they want to. If that happens, this so called 'rescue package' could mean we still have somewhere to go on a saturday afternoon. i don't necessarily like the man either, but its time i started ignoring my own opinions and look at the bigger picture. Any saving grace has my backing. i have preferrences and this isn't it, but when it all comes down to it, the survival of SFC is the only destination i want to get to.

ANYONE COMING UP WITH ANY PLAN TO SAVE THIS CLUB I AM GRATEFUL TO INCLUDING MR. JACKSON.
THE STUPIDITY OF PEOPLE CUTTING THEIR NOSES OFF TO SPITE THEIR FACE WILL SEE US WITHOUT ANY BACKERS AT THIS RATE.
I HAVE SUPPORTED SAINTS SINCE 1965.
I HAVE COME TO THE CONCLUSION THE TAG OF BEING THE MOST WINGING SUPPORTERS IN FOOTBALL IS WELL EARNT. THAT MORE THAN ANYTHING HAS MADE US THE LAUGHING STOCK OF FOOTBALL.
SOME OF YOU NEED TO STOP THROWING YOUR TOYS OUT YOUR PRAMS AND GROW UP.
YOU KNOW LITTLE OR NOTHING OF WHAT IS GOING ON BEHIND THE SCENES.LET THE REAL MEN TRY AND SAVE THE CLUB AND GO AND PLAY WITH YOUR DINKY TOYS.
UNLESS YOU HAVE THE MONEY TO PUT WHERE YOUR MOUTHS ARE

I know Jackson is not popular but I don't see what is wrong with the proposal as set out in the article. After all if the other interested parties fade away then we will be grateful for any rescue surely?????

The gut reaction to criticise is understandable given how many people have let us down and the awful confusion/ups and downs of the last few weeks but I suspect that some just see the name Jackson and plough in without even reading.

OK - I don't want Jackson either but I WANT TO WATCH SAINTS PLAY MILLWALL NEXT MONTH as surely we all do...

Jackson is a self-publicising fantasist. If people give credence to his nonsense, he will only get worse. His last proposal had Peter Reid confirmed as Manager - Reid himself knew nothing of this...enough said.
Any one of us could drop a line to the Echo stating we have a rescue bid in place with a wealthy backer.
This tool is full of hot air and no substance.....

Typical knee jerk reaction about Marc Jackson, at the moment he looks far more credible than Pinnacle and MLT. If he is the last option he'll have my full backing and thanks for saving the club, more than those bullsh*****s at Pinnacle.

Security word; wait-wait, you couldn't make it up!

F*CK SAKE... you people who comment on here really have no idea do you.... Jackson is a Saints fan himself... he wants to save the club IF none of the other BETTER bids come through.... ok he may not be the man we all want in at Saints... but id prefer him than other rumours of becoming Southampon Red Bulls FFS!!! all i want is OUR club back... now pull together and stop b*tching off at any sign of something you dont like.

I'd prefer Red Bull. They are worth 8 billion and don't seem to be doing to bad for all there other teams they own. RB southampton doesn't sound too bad and i cant wait to go down the Red Bull Arena on a saturday afternoon....

SaintHarry, good point.

We should start asking what exactly it is about our club that is rotten to the core and nobody seems to want it (realistically - forgetting all chancers and dreamers!)
