Exclusive By Simon Carter
THE mystery overseas consortium’s hopes of completing a takeover at St Mary’s yesterday were stunned by the Pinnacle group’s return to the scene.
The worldwide financial services group were initially confident of announcing a deal had been completed after their lawyers had spent two days negotiating with administrator Mark Fry and creditors.
Former Football League chairman Keith Harris – head of Saints’ financial advisors Seymour Pierce – had also been working behind the scenes on their behalf.
But representatives of the overseas group – exclusively revealed by the Echo on Monday as being late arrivers at the bidding table – and their lawyers were totally bemused to find out at tea-time yesterday that Pinnacle, who withdrew from the race on Tuesday, were apparently back in contention again.
Pinnacle’s Tony Lynam exclusively told the Echo last night that “the last 24 hours have been busy, but probably not as busy as the next 24 hours.”
