HAMPSHIRE sailor Pete Cumming sailed to victory in the latest round of the iShares Cup, the most spectacular and exciting racing series in the world.

Cumming skippered Oman Sail’s state-of-the-art Extreme 40 catamaran Masirah to clinch the top spot in round two of the series in France.

Following two days of Mediterranean madness in Hyeres, the Warsash skipper came out on top of the ten-boat fleet thanks in part to expert helming from Olympic sailor Chris Draper.

Cumming, 30, said: “Brilliant result – all last year we hoped we could do it but fell short.

“In the final race, we just kept our heads down, stayed focused and stayed out of trouble.

“We’ve got it right here and it’s great to get this result.”

The next round of the iShares Cup will take place from August 1 to 3 during Cowes Week – and now you could be part of it.

The iShares Cup is offering one lucky Echo reader a once-in-a-lifetime, money can’t buy experience with Pete Cumming and crew onboard Masirah, a high octane race boat capable of speeds of up to 40mph.

Answer the question below correctly and you could be in with a chance of taking part in the daily Parade of Sail where you will experience the exhilaration of being onboard one of the fastest sailing boats in the world.

The Parade of Sail takes place each day before racing and will see the ten teams whizz back and forth in front of the watching crowds at Egypt Point showing off their hi-tech sailing machines.

iShares Cup events director Gilles Chiorri said: “This really is a once in a lifetime experience.

“The iShares Cup is the most exciting racing series in the world and this is your chance to become part of it.

“If your idea of fun is flying along at top speeds over the water, then the iShares Cup is for you.”

The three-day iShares Cup at Cowes Week has become renowned as one of the highlights of the event, with the ten boats battling it out in high speed races just metres off the shore.

The spectacular racing will be taking place off Egypt Point, and with a public bar, open all week, entertainment and brilliant views of the racing, the free event is the perfect family day out – and is set to draw in the crowds.
