Murty looks set to sign for Saints

GRAEME Murty is expected to become a permanent Saints signing this week.

The 34-year-old former Reading captain has been training with the team since the start of pre-season.

After proving his fitness to new boss Alan Pardew, he will be offered a deal to stay at St Mary’s.

Pardew believes that Murty’s arrival will put pressure on Lloyd James as the two men compete for the right back role.

The signing that sends a message, it's not going to be anything like as good as you think!

Good on you Graeme,
don't take any notice
of the misery mongers
some people will criticise anything and everything.
The majority of the fans will be right behind you.

I must smile - James isn't a right back, so how is he going to make competition for the place?

Bad defeat on Saturday - it will dent any fragile confidence the team generated after thrashing Hearts!

Going to be along week waiting for the Millwall game.

Lol... wanna bet

It's going to be great Murty. You'll get loads of support at Saints and you know the boss if bringing in some more guys .. all is looking good.

Saint Murty has a ring to it.. sign and get stuck in to the footy battle of a life time.

Having seen James as a midfielder he is not convincing. Schoolboys stand waiting for the ball to arrive rather than meeting it. He hasn't got the instincts for immediacy which you need in midfield on a senior level and ends up losing the ball repeatedly. It isn't coincidence that Gillet, Wotton and Schneiderlin are all preferred, as was Drew when he was here. Can he make it as RB? That's for him to prove. If he's got it he should be able to unseat Murty in time.

Murty is a good signing, Reading fans have a very high opinion of him. He is just the kind of player we need in this league.

This is the same 'carthorse' which the majority of Reading fans rate very highly and were sorry to see the back of! Even Alan Pardew has said that we looked a different side when he came on at QPR! Look, if you are a Saints fan then SUPPORT your club. The last thing a new player needs when coming to the club is negative rubbish from negative people. Be thankful that we have a team at all, let alone one with real potential and a great management structure. COYR!!!

For those saints fans who moan about everything, we don't have the money to buy any player we like so we will have to get the best we can, and those moaners obviously did not see Murty play against Hearts he was excellent...So stop whining and think positively for a change..

Worth signing for the quality of crosses alone.

Centred for Rasiak to score againts Hearts, and delivered a perfect near post cross for Mills, who should have scored comfortably.

He's an experienced pro that can lead from the back. We should be happy to have an actual full back playing in the proper position. This can only help Lloyd James - he'll learn a lot from a seasoned pro. James was thrown in as right back with nobody to learn from, so I don't see any downside here. This will be the first time in years we've actually begun the season with a proper right back and left back. I have every confidence in AP, and if he thinks Murty is a good signing it's good enough for me. We have been desperate for experienced leaders.

I remember back in 74/75 laurie signed a certain veteran welsh fullback named peter rodriguez and the moaners came out then. look what he did for us.
