PAPA Waigo is in line for a sensational St Mary’s debut less than 48 hours after landing in England.

The 25-year-old Senegalese striker was due to touchdown in England last night and meet up with his new teammates today after agreeing a deal to join on loan from Serie A side Fiorentina on transfer deadline day.

Alan Pardew has yet to meet Waigo face-to-face but admits that his new signing does not speak much English. However, the Saints boss is hopeful the language of football will work in the same way as it did when he managed Carlos Tevez at West Ham.

And that will allow Waigo to start tomorrow’s League One fixture against Colchester at St Mary’s.

Pardew said: “His English we’re told is small but we’re hoping that the language of football isn’t.

“I’ve worked with similar players. Carlos Tevez, for example, arrived at West Ham and couldn’t speak one word of English.

“The information in to them is no big issue so we’ll see how he good he is when he arrives.

“If he is going to be involved tomorrow then we would want him here for training today.”

Waigo is expected to have no problems with gaining an instant work permit, having stayed in Rome to personally visit the British Embassy.
