PAPA WAIGO will have to wait for his Saints debut.

The 25-year-old Senegalese striker, who has been the talk of the city since his signing on transfer deadline day, was due to make his debut in this afternoon’s St Mary’s clash with Colchester.

But, despite the Italian FA having had the necessary paperwork since Tuesday, they failed to clear him to play before going home for the weekend.

Waigo had no problem securing his work permit, which Saints thought would be the tricky part of the equation, and it is understood that behind the scenes the club are furious with the hold-up which has cost them Waigo’s services for another week.

Waigo is now due to arrive at Southampton Airport this morning before meeting up with his new teamamtes.

The plan is for him to be unveiled to the fans before kick-off – and he may even do his celebratory dance.

But on the pitch he will now have to target a week’s training before Saints face Charlton at the Valley next weekend.
