Clipper yachts set off on leg three of round the world race

TEN yachts have set sail in the latest leg of a 35,000-mile round the world race organised by Hampshire yachting legend Sir Robin Knox-Johnston.

The yachts left Rio de Janeiro in Brazil yesterday bound for Cape Town in South Africa on the third leg of the Clipper Round the World Race.

The 3,300-mile leg will take the 68ft yachts, crewed by amateur sailors, across the South Atlantic dipping towards the Roaring Forties before approaching the notorious Cape of Good Hope.

Hampshire sailor Pete Stirling, skipper of Jamaica Lightning Bolt, will be hoping to relive the success of leg two, which saw the yacht take third place.
