Southampton consider consider loan move for Plymouth's George Donnelly

ALAN Pardew is keeping his eye on the market ahead of the emergency loan window closing today and is weighing up a move for Plymouth striker George Donnelly.

Football League clubs wishing to sign players on a temporary basis must do so by 5pm.

Once that deadline passes, the next available time for making a move is January.

Pardew revealed he may try to bring in a new face before the day is over.

One name that could join is Donnelly.

The 21-year-old Pilgrims striker played in last month’s 1-1 draw with Saints reserves.

He has been brought in on trial for Saints to have a look at, with a view to a loan move.

With at least seven games in December, as well as this weekend’s FA Cup trip to Northampton, Saints are embarking on a hectic schedule.

Pardew said it is a time when they could use as much cover as possible.

However, he is not necessarily looking for anyone to slot straight into the team.

“I’m just keeping my eye on the market,” he said.

“We want to try and cover ourselves for this period.

“We’ve got a lot of games and a big squad as it is, but there’s still one or two areas that I feel it would maybe be nice to have a look at one or two players.

“A bit like we did with Michail Antonio, it might not be something for now but bringing them in now to get comfortable with the place so maybe we can look in January to keep them.”
