FA Cup fifth round draw Southampton v Portsmouth

Saints were this evening drawn at home to Pompey in the FA Cup fifth round. The match will be played on the weekend of February 13/14.

Saints qualified for the fifth round after Saturday's 2-1 home win over Ipswich, while Pompey came from behind to beat Sunderland 2-1 at Fratton Park.

Saints have played Pompey four times in the FA Cup and have never lost.

In fact, they have never been beaten by their rivals in cup competitions.

The last time the two sides met at St. Mary's was also an FA Cup game, with Saints coming out on top thanks to a Peter Crouch penalty in the last minute.

Choas will run through the streets of Southampton the whole weekend.

I think Mr Westwood should be banned after his alledged urinating on the seats in The Northam during his last visit.

In the words of Delia - "Let's be 'avin you!"

Marcus welcome to the world of rivalry (some call hatred) that goes back years. The stadium will rock - Pardew you have one mission to get the lads up for this...none of them will have experienced the bitterness and the vitriole they hold for us - put them in their place once and for all before they go out of business.

The biggest payday for them for ages - but all too late. I bet they sell out very quickly for this one...how many will they get - 6,000?

Normally I wouldn't be too upset if we lost in the later stages of the FA Cup but this is a 'must win' as the gloating will be intolerable if we lose to the Sad Blue Few.

Me too because I could see the ball spinning around in the bowl had two numbers on it.
If they fail to pay their players next Friday, they could yet have a walk out.
Don't think AP will need to keep the players focussed on the league until then, cos if they don't ALL play to be in this one they don't belong at SMS.

I don't think they realise that we just can't lose, even if they score more goals than us. I feel so lucky that I have got out my 76 hat, rattle and jumper( unfortunately lost the prog). We are on our way - you had better believe it - see you at Wembly

The biggest payday for them for ages - but all too late. I bet they sell out very quickly for this one...how many will they get - 6,000?
The Saints fans ticket demand will be so high they should only get 10% of the gate about 3200
Why should we give them any more when we only get 2000 when we go to the shed.

I agree the police will not want fans coming out of the pub and then on to match. PLEASE CAN I PUT A HUGE PLEA OUT without sounding too kill joyish that we ensure that the rivalry is just about the football and no trouble. I must admit I am a bit worried that a few idiots will spoil the big day.

Ourkid1984. Since 33 Pompey hooligans were jailed 6 years ago - there has thankfully been little or no "Pompey" trouble to report. Hampshire Police will see to that. Those so called fans upset the whole of our City when they wreaked havoc that night but the sentences sent out a strong message.Re Westwood - he is a drunk and does not represent the majority of true Pompey fans. All we need now is a team after next weeks fire sale. What a draw PUP !!!
Well said fish fiddler..........let s hope for great game by both teams with Saints coming out on top obviously but most importantly lets hope for a trouble free day..........both sets of supporters must rember a hated rival is for life...........not just the premiership.
I think this is just what both sets of fans needed.

Although I hate the Skates, it will be great to welcome them to our ground, what a great occasion.

The skate fans think drawing Saint's has guranteed them a easy passage to the quarter finals? They think they have won the game even before it's started, Sounds to me that the blue brigade are very worried and know they are there for the taking. Saint's will put the final nail in the Skates coffin and there will be only ever be one team in Hampshire once and for all. Skates fans are suppose to be the best yet when the club needs them more only 10,000 can be bothered! only one team in Hampshire has the greatest fans and that's Saint's. Keep it in the ground please.
As we are at home we will win. That is if they are still a club by then.
10th feb is taxman time. Read today that if players are not paid then within two weeks of due time the contracts can be declaired void.(sp).
King's Lynn are the most recent example of a club dissolved by the taxman, Pompey next. Our brothers (who we don't talk to anymore) will be suffering, and there is nothing more dangerous than someone with nothing to loose and all to prove. Pride makes madmen out of sane.

I,m going to open a nice bottle of red wine and drink it with some cambozola cheese (out of respect to our new owners) and watch that new Del boy when he was young on the Beeb at 9pm and then go and cuddle my crisp old lady before going to sleep and dreaming about Saints crushing victory over poopey. Isn,t being a Saints fan orgasmic!!!! COYR
Priceless....I think I'll uncork a bottle too! :O)

Apparently even their director Storrie isn-t sure who owns the club. What club one could ask?
in truth though I would lose this one to win the play offs. Rather win everything though.
well we should have hammond schniederlin back and a new midfielder. Though un fairness no one let us down yesterday. The only change i would make for Brentford would be to bring in Fonte for the jedi

if we were going to play a premiership club this round would of prefered a decent one. Instead half the money taken at the gate goes into Poop's pocket because cup gates are shared. So basically we will be helping their club out by going to the game. If they still exist of course. Will this be the last Southampton v pooh derby.
It gets split 3 ways, with a third going to the FA.
I think we should withhold their share and offer it to one of the many people they owe money to, especially if the unexpected happens and they win.
My guess is that there will be a pitch invasion by the mutants, somewhere between our 3rd and 4th goal going in ;0)

As a kid minding my own business in both Soton and Pmpey got a kicking off ours.. thugs some of em! but Pompey... kick to the head and don't stop and do it to women and kids ..that's the way is was in 60s and 70s for sure.

jesus its taken me so much time to read all the posts my eyes are running from lol, what are the odds on a draw then the poopey going out of business the day before the replay?, got to be worth a quid, i've had three calls asking me for tickets already, can see a ring of steel around the city centre to herd the cattle to market, 14th feb has got to be st marcus day, the only downside to this is i'll probably lose my seat in the northam (block 42), hope they jet wash the entire end before the next home game, still not wishing to gloat but there has only ever been ONE CLUB IN HAMPSHIRE come on you mighty red and white machine.

I think you will find there are a loyal band and those who treated their kids to a Boxing Day out with cheaper tickets.
Being a Saints fan isn't all about going every week - it's a way of life. I don't go to every game but those I can afford andwant to go to. You could say what about the regular 32,000 who turned up every week for The Premiership teams - and that missing 10,000?
There are hundreds like me that remember the 70's & 80's when going out for a night in Southsea was a bit of a laugh until kicking out time - especially Nero's. This is more than football - this is tribal my town against yours. Pride and bragging rights at stake. Ever since I have followed Saints it has always been with us until the drubbing at FP the season we went down.
All the potential trouble aside around town - it makes for a cracking atmosphere in the ground. Some take it too far and let it take them over...but it should stay inside the ground.
I expect it to be a high noon kick off on Sunday. No visible drinking on the streets - no cans etc. and a heavy handed Police presence. All that aside it should be a fun day out - an early start and maybe home before it gets dark (not!).
It's not about whether they get a winding up order or go out of business - we have a score to settle and we have one last chance potentially. Our lads froze against Brighton - somehow I don't think lightening will strike twice.
MLT will be part of the pundits team along with Claridge? Put Franny in the mix and it could all kick off in the commentary box.
Great clip on Youtube of Franny singing "When I was just..."

Dude, a week is a long time in football, three weeks will now seam like a lifetime. This will be a great experience for our side, you obviously have not seen them of late, we are a team playing together, goals are coming from all angles. I fear your team are in a much worse position than we were ever in, just look down the road to Brighton to see what can happen.
In three weeks time you will;
~ Have sold Kaboul, Utaka and anyone else you can.
~ Not have replaced them.
~ Still be arguing with the taxman, an argument no-one has ever won.
~ Still owe money to; Gaydamack (don't know how to spell his name), several clubs, £30mil+ to that fella in Hong Kong, the taxman and several players. I can see you paying some so that their contracts are not dissolved, others will be basically told to look elsewhere, the PFA will be livid.
~ Be considering admin so as to not go compleatly under.

The league wants to make an example of you, Brighton, Bournemouth, us, Luton, King's Lynn, Leeds and many more have learnt the hard way, you cannot win, you are looking at 10 years of darkness, the Council will be asked to buy the ground to rent it back to you.
If you want someone to blame then start with Manderic and work down, winning the cup only two years ago and you ARE worse off for it.
SAINT Valentine's Day, think about it.

Pardew should be in a position to make a comment about the game though NOW. I just hope we have some of the Southampton lads in there who know what it means.

What a great draw!

I hope NC has got the file out and seen that that simple minded fat moron mr poopey is banned from St.Marys!

I hope the police control the poopey fans in and out of the St.Marys and around the city, as this will give them a great opputunity to vent their frustrations on the stadium, game, and possibly Saints fans, if nothing else! They caused so much damage the last time they visited St. Mary's.

But I for one hope we don't turn into Chelsea fans and start waving money at them. Let's not lower to Chelsea or poopey fans level. Yes enjoy the banter, as they are owed tons. More so as they have not held back in recent times! But lets just beat them and knock them out. This will only be good if NO SAINTS FAN IS HURT OR INJURED FOR NOTHING MORE THAN STUPIDITY, OR THE CLUB DAMAGED OR HAVE TO ANSWER IN SOME WAY AGAIN DOWN TO STUPIDITY!Then focus on the bigger picture of having the best season we not had for many a year! You talk of real fans?

Do you know what a real fan is?

A real fan, will turn up even if their club teetering on the edge of existence, (when we were in that situation) our gates were still bigger than yours, our real fans did not go marching through the streets, we went marching to the ticket office to support our team, real fans do not dress up like a pantomime dame. like that thing you have, real fans will look into the corporate boxes and scoof at the suits and think how stupid they look, real fans have a passion for their team, not boo them like yours do, real fans will be at SMS in February, unlike those plastic Paulsgrove plebs.

If you are at SMS (which I doubt), I suggest you look to your left, you will not see big boys, but you will see a group of men who are the real fans, and when you've got over the shock of that, look in front of you, you will see another group of men ready willing and able to show you what real fans are, they will be the one's in red and white.

Awesome post, you are my new hero.

Real fans !!! Don't make me laugh you pikey sister loving idiot. You had 10000 fans v Sunderland, we had over 20000 v Ipswich. As for a passionless corporate concrete bowl ... You can only dream of having a ground like ours. Your ground is only fit for the blue square and that's where you'll be playing next season. RIP Portsmouth FC and the Blue Few

Just a thought, but will Portsmouth actually be able to afford to play this game? They'll be given their share of the gate minus the policing costs, which are going to be so considerable that they'll end up owing money. How tragic it would be if Pompey's inability to behave like human beings is what finally drags them under.

must be a lot of skate fans working for the daily echo, as my post has been removed , it was not malicious, false or abusive in anyway , it was just stating the plain truth , last time i remember we had freedom of speech still in this country and not mass censorship or guns to our heads, back to the daily rags for me ,subscriptions cancelled.

I was one of those so called "loyal" saints fans who was back in the south for christmas, my fourth game of the season. This involves a round trip of 500 miles and a journey time of 5 hours each way.I was a season tkt holder for a total of 12 years both at the dell and st marys and still follow avidly everything to do with saints.Hoping to make at least another 4 games plus three at wembley.A lot of saints fans live far and wide and christmas may have been their one and only chance to show their support. so please don't be so quick to judge!!!

Fair comment
Be it season ticket holders or fans that can get there when they can the bottom line is we all live and breath Southampton Football Club
We also know we are the biggest and best supported club on the south coast
The fish Fu*kers keep on about the so called big crowds they had 50 years ago but we have had the best support for the last 20-30 years
Bring the welsh dragon Saints and all the Saints fans from a far to St Marys and witness the slaughter of the inbreds from the city of fish guts and sh*te

Check the records though Pompeylad, and you'll see that the Skates have never beaten us in any cup competion in your history, and soon you'll lose to a team in the third tier of English football right now! Now normally that would mean a lot, but not this year! We've got everything goinf for us, and you're whole team is disintegrating infront of you!! Its pay day sooon again too, and the rumour around the campfire is that if your boys don't get paid on time then many will walk, and ther contracts will be null and void, because your great club hasn't upheld their simple obligation to pay them for their work!
I don't know how any of you can sleep at night!!
Southampton till I die!!! COYR!!!

Whatever goes on between Saints & Pompey fans, one things for sure. The millions watching on tv are in for one hell of a game. An English cup tie & local derby to boot. lets hope there's only one winner FOOTBALL its self. Enjoy the game lads, take care of yourselves, & Saints to win.

A song for the Pompey faithfull... "Always look on the bright side of life, two-nil we're gonna win two-nil. The skates are gonna get the biggest shock of their life, two-nil, we're gonna win two-nil. When you look at it, Pompey are full of sh*t, they think they are the best team in the South. But come this Valentine's, the Saints are gonna shine, and shove the form book down their bloody mouth, so...Always look on the bright side of life!!!!!!!
