Pardew's ref rage

Alan Pardew was furious with referee Peter Quinn after his late penalty decision left Saints struggling to reach the play-offs.

Saints boss Pardew had been more than a little frustrated by Quinn’s performance throughout the match at Tranmere.

But he was left bemused and angry when the controversial award of a late penalty saw his side slip to a 2-1 defeat at Prenton Park.

Saints also had a decent looking penalty shout of their own turned down with Jose Fonte instead getting booked for diving.

The defeat at relegation battlers Tranmere has left Saints 15 points off the top six with a game in hand.

But with just 13 games of their season remaining, what was already an uphill task is beginning to look even tougher.

Pardew said: “You know when the referee’s lost it a bit when he starts giving decisions that are completely wrong.

“After he gave the penalty he gave us a couple of free-kicks that were never our free-kicks and you know he’d lost the bearing of the game.

“I spoke to him at half time because I was disappointed by his first half.

“I don’t really want to add any more to that.

“The team put a good effort in and didn’t get their reward.”

Rubbish pitches, bad refs ,this division has all that in abundance, wont be just good football that gets us out of this div, were gonna need a lot of luck as well.
Tactics need to be bang on AP,although they were in this game, sort of proves the point.

Not until math can prevent us.
Besides, what else is there to talk about?.
Jpt coming up.
Team is ok.
Manager is ok.
Stadium is ok.
Owner is ok.
Supporters are ok.
Pies ok.

All good in the hood.

Sure its the same for every club, but for me it seemed like when we went into admin, we were a target for bad decisions and seemed to get victimised by the FA.

I have the feeling that the FA were concerned we might get out of this league this season, which would send the wrong message to other clubs about going into Admin.
.
Therefore they produced a bloke that would have been out of his depth referring a sunday morning parks league game. (I gather it was his first game at league 1 standard, hopefully his last).
.
The only saving grace is that the PRESSURE is starting to get to the other clubs trying for the play offs.
.
The best thing the fans and the players can do is go on a winning run again.
They cannot give us a CHEATING REF again, they have already played that card.

I'm paranoid too..

I was at the Aussie Croatia world cup game when Graham Poll gave the same Croat 3 yellow cards. Then the diving cheating Itie got a penalty in the final minute of the Aussie game & they went on to win.

Look at Birmingham on the weekend, they had a good goal disallowed too.

To be honest I think this moaning about refs gets tiresome (not just AP but all managers), every team has legitimate complaints, but I dont think you can prove they are caused by biase. Surely without the refs help we should have beaten Tranmere f88888g Rovers . AP needs to look at his team, his tactics first before he blames others.

That was just an incompetent referee out of his depth. Not a CHEATING referee as you are suggesting.
We had enough chances to win the game without the referee's performance.
Remember the iffy free kick we were awarded against Luton that led to Rickie Lambert's winning goal.
There will always be referees of different standards and we have to get on with it.
I do not think the word CHEATING can be attributed to any referee.
Incompetent,maybe, but not cheating.

There will always be matches like this and the disappointment is hard to take. Referee errors or pitches or whatever .. it happnens.

The play offs are still mathematically possible but one more defeat and it will be beyond us. In mathematcal terms we have to win 12 games. I doubt we will. Even with the most optimistic view and a strong faith in this team and management - going on a 12 win run doesn't happen to many teams.

Lets enjoy the rest of the season, lets win the JPT trophy, and lets get enough points to show we would have been in the play offs had we not had that ten point reduction.

I still think its worth finishing strongly, with a couple more 5-0's to boost confidence and build a mindset that will be unstoppable next season.

Morning fellow Saints fans - still feel cheated after Saturdays game, which has been re-lived many times since then.
The ref was inconsistent, and he got very little help from his assistants.
I don't think you can fault the tactics on Saturday. Our lads got stuck in but was penalised everytime. Fair challenges winning the ball - just seemed a bit more aggressive. They got loads fo free kicks for nothing tackles when our player came up with the ball fairly.
Play-offs - still not sure. I'd love to be more optimistic but I think unless two or three teams go into free fall we only then will have a chance.
Good to be a Saints fan - and as for the dear old Pompey fan in with the Tranmere fans - I think he had one too many. What a plonker! I would never dream of going to watch Pompey and pull out a Saints flag! He was brave though as I believe he had his two daughters with him - must have been all of 8 or 9!
Bring on Leeds, a decent ref and get back to winning ways. As the song goes - "what ever will be, will be"

Let's put things into perspective. We could easily have been 3 even 4 up at half time with the chances we created and all talk of an incompetant ref would be forgotton. Can't agree with some posts yesterday who said some of the lads didn't put in a shift.Personally couldn't fault effort only some decision making but that's football sometimes.Thought -WHY DID Fonte dive ( yes it was right in front of us and it was a dive - not in the hassan kachloul milton road end class that even had us home fans laughing but nonethe less a dive ) when he could have got a shot or at least a ball across the box away. The Barnard penalty shout when wrestled by defender in box a good one the other ? I don't think the hands on the back would have shifted a 2 stone wet shirt and he wouldn't have reached the ball anyway. All in all no despondancy here.

There's always an excuse when we don't get the points against the teams we should thrash. 'bad pitches' 'bad refs' i don't think there's any excuse for losing to Tranmere.

It's unbelievable how we were looking the best team in the league a week ago an then smashed back down to earth the next. How can you explain it? and who's to blame?

Agreed Mike. AP, who I support wholeheartedly, seems to want to do it pretty, very honourable, but away from home for certain games he should pick accordingly. I'm happy to be bored silly for 90 mins at away games save for that magic moment when the ball kicks up on a cut to ribbons part time rugby pitch, hits Ricky on the Jacksy and trickles past a bemused home keeper. 3 points! Win pretty at home, away from SMS, just win! Forget the playoffs, just win the league next year. The thought of Saints going out of business is too fresh in the head for me to be fretting about play offs this year, I'm happy enough. Being forever red means never being blue!!

I thought Pards was matter of fact about the ref.

I'm a huge Pards supporter and absolute opimist but coming from the prem and Championship may Pard's has forgotten that mongrel growl that lifts lower teams in any sport to win. It's that nerve deep inside that sparks a person into life when they are up against a tough ask..

The team appear to look for gaps rather than bulldozing them in the manner of Big Ron or slicing them like Mick Channon.

Was it Pards or Dave Merrington that said putting Thomo in C/f in the last 15 mins would be worth a go.. He'd be a menace on the charge and in the air.

In honesty the frustration of these games at 4am is amplified as my nerves get frazzled. The simple answer is confidence around the box.

Our forwards can dribble through and score or look more of close passing and snap shooting.. The accuracy is a long time coming but it will come.

Pards knows how we feel, and probably feels more disappointed than most.. I do still have faith that we'll crush some of these teams and finish well.

Will we make it.. lets get 5 past Leeds and see how we go. I hope my stunned feeling goes away by the weekend.

We need a 33-34 year old nutcase in the middle for games like this.
Someone who will lead by example when the chips are down.
Thomas does this when he is on and kicks a few people in the air.
Thinking a kind of David Unsworth/Chris Morgan hybrid.

To change the subject. . . What do you think about Pompey still playing in the FACup even though they are in administration?? Very interesting article in todays Express stating that they have had an unfair advantage playing players they cannot afford to play while other clubs actively manage their finances. FA rules state they cam be expelled from the competition. . . essentially for cheating!! Not like me to kick someone when they are down but listening to jabba the Hut crow on about their spirit is getting a bit much. . . If you cheat. . . you get thrown out. . . Period!!

Of course we can still make the play offs. . . .Saturday was a golden chance to close the gap but there is still a long way to go and we still have those nine home games left. . . Quality pitch. . .20000 plus croud. . .It is not over yet. Not like me to kick someone when they are down but listening to jabba the Hut crow on about their spirit is getting a bit much. . . If you cheat. . . you get thrown out. . . Period!!
Not a chance of that happening, get real get a life

Get a life?? Well that was constructive discussion!! Rules are rules whatever sport you are in and cheating is not to be tolerated or encouraged. I am not so sure that the pantomime that the Storrie teller has woven is about to come to an abrubt end. . . and the sooner the better!!!

Portsmouth are not in danger of being kicked out of the FA Cup even though the FA has the power to do so.

According to rule 5(f), if a club "becomes subject to an insolvency event", the FA "will then decide whether to allow that club to continue to compete", with administration listed among the insolvency events.

ESPN contacted the FA and has been informed that there is nothing on the agenda about eliminating the team from the FA Cup despite suggestions in the national press.

Just wishful thinking

Thats better. . .Very well put. However. . The FA may have their hand forced if the Premier League deduct nine points for the exact same reason. It will be incredibly difficult for them to offer a reasonable arguement allowing them to stay in the competition and it is not just Saints fans voicing this opinion. If the FA want to preserve the integrity of the competition. . . that is already see to many as second rate. . they may not have any choice. They. . . Like the PL are waiting on the decision of the courts. Lets wait and see!!

Before the match your fans was in our pub gloating how good you are and that you will tear us apart win 4-0 blah blah blah. And that you are the best in the league.Well we was all sat in our cosy little home stand saying that your mob was one of the most boring long ball rubbish that has ever come to prenton. You have no chance of the play-offs.We are rubbish,i will admit that,we have absoultely zero decent players yet we beat you 2-1 and the pitch was o.k for league 1 standards at least.Blame the ref all you want, but with the players you have and the money you have spent, you should be smashing us.So you may want to have a little think before goating at you next away match, you came off a little stupid.xx
Point that you seem to be missing is that we do have a chance of the Playoffs unlike you!!! P.S.To a large extent its down to a scouser just like you! Theres only one Ricky Lambert!! Thanks mate, now go and get relegated!!! COYRAWAPMACHINE!!!!
Ha my point is proven. You have big man syndrome. If you was serious about the play-offs you should be beating relegation threatened teams like ours.Stop giving the big one on away days. You lot looked stupid.ricky lambert?????did he play?Do you honestley think you will win all your games with that tripe?Long ball larrys.Your rubbish.....see you next season for 3 more easy points.
You're right - we should be beating you but Saturday was an absolute freak of a result. You literally had one shot on target all game before the ref handed you the most outrageous penalty I've ever seen. The ref was abysmal and was the reason for the result - Pardew was admirably restrained in what he said about him, frankly.

Still, I like Tranmere and I hope you stay up. Good luck with the rest of the season.

You should never give up until the fat lady sings, no matter how distant the play off seems. For me I would like us to push up as far as we can, and by doing so if that can still get us into the play off position by one point then go for it lads!!
Not sure anyone has given up, just generally dispondent after Saturday and we'll soon need to win every game whilst still hoping others above us lose. Therefore being realistic, it isn't going to happen, so we may as well stop talking about it!

I understand what your saying, though that still mounts to the same thing. Always one team teams jumps in the back door. The team is more than good enough to go on that run, and this might be the drive they need.

No good blaming the ref for a defeat because he didn't have a very good pereformance.
Neither did most of the players or we would have been in front!
Not the first time either that we have bottled it/ underperformed against opposition that you have to beat if you're harboring realistic play off ambitions.
Wycombe Exeter, Brentford, Millwall also spring to mind.
Great performance at Norwich excepted, we haven't won a league game away since 5th December, hardly promotion form!
Just enjoy the rest of this season for what it is. A consolidation year.

What we must do is get the team right for next season, to come out of the traps with a good run, not take 11games to get 10pts.
